Are two spaces after a period a deal breaker in a relationship? Bloom County's Sunday comic says yes.

In this Sunday's Bloom County by master comic artist Berkeley Breathed (if you don't follow Bloom County on Facebook then you should), Opus gives us the importance of his campaign platform: having two spaces after a period. I guess "space really is the final frontier."

All of us writers get it, don't we? Don't all of us want two spaces again? This is a campaign worth the presidency people! I hope you giggled as much as I did.

  1. Bloom County is still around? I remember when it retired and he started on Outland, which was not funny at all.
It took me this long to learn one space. Not going back now.

  2. I STILL have to go through my mss at the end and do a search for two spaces. Old habits...

  4. HA! I love this. I am a two-space--some of the publications I use professionally require it and it is just too hard to remember which mode I am in and it is EASY at the end, when necessary, to find and replace two spaces for one.

  5. I adjusted to one space quite easily. It's a time saver. Does that make me some kind of deviant?

  6. I love only having on space and wish I could use it for all writing.

  7. I've read that job resumes are rejected if there are two spaces because the employer knows you're an old fart who learned to type on a typewriter.

    1. I am an old fart who learned to type on a typewriter. I still put only one space after a period.

  8. It took me a long time to stop adding that extra space after a period, lol. Old school grammar. That missing space does not intrude on my real life relationships though. Sheeesh!!

  9. Making the one space transition was easy for me, and I'm not going back. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not! Well, except for text messages, but with a double space it puts the period in for me.

  10. Hey, not only do I want two spaces again, I want that comma back before the second "and" in a sentence.

  11. I can't totally break the two space habit. I'm better now, but I still do a search on the last draft and find many. It's ingrained.
