Bug Chasing

Bug chasing refers to a fetish where someone intentionally tries to sleep with a person infected with AIDS in an effort to contract the disease. Although there are some straight men and women who may fall into this group, the majority (by far) identify as either bi-sexual or gay. Some people admit to doing this in order to receive free government benefits. However, I think most are after some kind of "thrill" that I cannot explain. Perhaps they are sex addicts who are bored with less risky behaviors.

Interesting, don't you think?

Have a great Wednesday.

  1. I guess it's a kind of masochism, like self-harm.

  2. Maybe some people are willing to take the chance if they love the person. O.o

  3. I read a book where characters were doing this, or at least attempting to do this. For the life of me, I can't remember what that book was called.

  4. OMG. You are exposing me to a whole world of people who desperately need help.

  5. Wow, you have to have some low self-esteem to try to hurt yourself like that. I don't get it. I'm paranoid about picking up a cold germ.

  6. ...and to think there are enough of them to have a fetish named after their behavior.

  7. Damn it, and I was hoping for something closer to the literal sense. This just sounds like slow suicide.

  8. I'm glad to keep hearing about people even weirder than me.

  9. Sounds like cutting and other disorders like that.

  10. That's really kind of sad and depressing. Worse, though, would be the people who know they're infected and want to infect others unwittingly.

  11. I am stunned. I have never heard of this and wow, I cannot imagine deriving a thrill from trying to catch a horrible disease.

  12. I think that would qualify as insanity

  13. I'm with Adam. Only an insane person would take such risks. Perhaps they are suicidal. Whatever the case, the "bug chasers" need help.

  14. Wow ... just wow. I'd normally chalk it up to a death-wish, but I don't think that's it in this case. Maybe just thrill-seaking behavior for sex addicts? IDK, but it's seriously messed up...

  15. I wonder what the incidence of this type of behavior is in the general population, whether its more common in this country or other cultures.

  16. I went back and read your last few posts to get caught up.

I can't imagine what makes people find this stuff erotic. But what it made me wonder is this:

Do people with these fetishes find ordinary stuff gross to them? Would someone who has your Rubber Mask Fetish think that my finding Lucy Lawless hot is "gross?" Or do they just say "Man, I don't get why you think Lucy Lawless is hot without her wearing a rubber mask and being covered in bugs while crashing a car."

About which: I bet Lucy Lawless would still be hot, even in that scenario.

Lucy Lawless is hot, is my main point here.

  17. Some people will do anything for attention. This one is awful.

    ........dhole

  18. Sick. Sick. Sick. To think so many people catch this disease and would do anything to rid themselves of it.

  19. Self-hatred or repressed suicidal desires sound like the only logical explanation. Sad.

  20. That is very strange. I can't imagine wanting to be infected with a horrible disease. :/

  21. Wow. They should combine that with the biting insect thing you mentioned before.

  22. Really? Do they know they can die a horrible death? Maybe it's an attention-getting thing...

  23. Each time I visit, I think today's fetish can't be as bad as the last, but you keep topping it.

  24. Sad, whatever the reason is. Especially so if there are enough people who fall into the category for there to be an actual phrase for it.

  25. Touchy and controversial topic, that's for sure. It's sad but at least we're on the outside witnessing it happen. Very devasting, though.

And yes, very interesting. It just makes you feel sorry...
