Thank you Pacific Rim for giving us rockets on the elbow

Every time that I watch the "Pacific Rim" trailer, I get shivers. I wanted to blog about this in December, but I had too many things going on. But now that things are clearing up a bit, if you haven't watched this trailer, you should do so now.

Specifically (if you don't have time or if you've seen it already but didn't do a frame by frame analysis) advance to 1:52 in the video. You see the gargantuan Jaeger robot pull back its arm to punch a kaiju monster in the face and there are ROCKETS on its elbow to propel its fist forward with even more force to knock its lights out! Boo Yah! That's what I'm talkin' about! How frickin' cool is that to punch a big monster in the face with rockets on your elbow to give you added thrust? Guillermo del Toro, you are a genius!
Thank you, thank you "Pacific Rim" for giving us rockets on the elbow to punch kaiju monster in da face. Read my other post on the most exciting movie of 2013, Pacific Rim, HERE.

And on the business side of things, the Oculus book tour continues over at Laura Eno's blog found HERE.

  1. Someone got bored of sitting tight and not getting out his post-a-day!

  2. If I had FU money, I'd fly to the States on the day it comes out just to watch the premiere. I'd buy a large popcorn with extra butter on it too.

  11. I'm definitely looking forward to this one! I've never outgrown these stories and films. "Cancelling the Apocalypse." That's a great line.

  15. @Callie: LOL There's so much coming up. The last season of Merlin is starting Friday, I have CES next week, plus Being Human and Shameless is coming back. And then the Walking Dead starts up again in February!

    @Elise: I'd love to have FU money. That's my goal in life.

    @Alex: It's true. And he's getting even more epic as time goes on. I wonder what he'll tackle next.

    @Brinda: Same here.

    @Tammy: You're welcome.

    @P.T.: ZOMGAH...do I get the impression that you will actually go and see this movie? That there might be a bone in your body that is remotely excited????

    @Charity: I think that's what he was going for--a blatant homage.

    @Elizabeth: You should go with him for the premiere this summer!

    @Adam: He kinda does. Master Chief looks awesome.

    @Slamdunk: I hope you like my analysis of the Jaeger bluprints.

    @Munir: Hmmm. I wonder if it has to do with disqus

    @Stephen: Me too.

    @Cindy: I think that's what they were going for, except without the robots becoming cars and planes.

    @Stephen: Just click play sir!

  16. I'm completely beside myself that sci-fi is practically dominating the 2013 lineup, all ending with Ender's Game in Nov (unless someone else comes out later). This looks like a sweet ride! :)

  17. Another interesting trailer...

    Thanks Michael

  18. I just found out what my husband and I are going to do for a date night this summer! I hadn't yet heard of the movie, but it looks awesome.

  19. Y'know, Michael, I can think of a few people I'd like to punch with rockets on my elbow. Maybe I should get me some. Always love your posts. They're so unique. Happy New Year from the UK.

  20. Okay, am I really the only one to say it? Rockets are great, but I'm watching this movie for Charlie Hunam. :P

  21. Cool. I do love the occasional sci-fi movie. I see this one has Idris Elba in it, so it's now a must-watch for me. :)

  22. Ha! I hadn't watched it until now, but that is SO COOL!

  23. I saw The Hobbit on Monday and this trailer was on it. Awesome! I guess good guys need a little extra umph in the punch to defeat the bad guys? Or maybe Guillermo just likes things that blow up :)

    Heading to Laura's now.

    ......dhole

  24. Was that Charlie Hunnam!? Yes. I will totally be watching this one. Combination Godzilla and Robot Jox...why not? :)

  25. As Stephen said above, the line "cancelling the apocalypse" is genius. I actually wrote it down. Lines and sayings have been really inspiring me lately.

    And I did not know they were making an ENDER'S GAME movie! (re: David's comment above)

    Michael, I was wondering about your opinion on the WARM BODIES movie coming out February 1st. I'm actually really excited to see it (and my birthday is Feb. 4th so yeahh... :) ) and I was curious about your thoughts.

  26. I'll look out for it in Malaysia. Happy New Year Mike, may 2013 be bright and beautiful. And thank you Mike for your wishes for me, you understood.

  27. Haven't heard of it, but it could be I've been hiding under a rock... looks so good. I know hubby will love it:)

  28. I liked the trailer. I have faith that Del Toro will make this awesome. It's hard for me not to think of Power Rangers with this concept. I'm cautiously optimistic.

  29. The trailer is lots of fun, and the elbow rockets make sense -- in martial arts and self-defense, the elbow itself can be one mean weapon.

  30. Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who isn't watching this show! I really should do something about that!

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is the one movie I'm really excited about this year! It looks spectacular. And GLADoS! That's actually GLADoS!

  32. I'm sorry, Munir. I do have first comment moderation on, but I don't show you in pending or spam. I'm not sure why you couldn't comment.

    When, when, WHEN is Pacific Rim coming out? I want to see it!
