The wonderful world of Mondo posters

All of my extended family lives in Texas. The home of George W. Bush, the home of Rick Perry, the state that is so conservative it makes me wince just a little thinking that I should visit there.

But is Austin different? You betcha. I could live in Austin. For one, they have the Alamo Drafthouse and that means Mondo.

Mondo is the Alamo Drafthouse's collectible art boutique, featuring designs from world famous artists based on licenses for popular TV and Movie properties including Star Wars, Star Trek & Universal Monsters. Championed for their limited edition screen printed posters, Mondo focuses on bringing art back to movie posters by working with artists such as Olly Moss, Tyler Stout, Martin Ansin and others. Besides creating stunning works for beloved classics and contemporary films.

Here are my current love affairs. They are posters that (if I owned my own house) I would collect and display. They are so pretty.

Are you impressed by the wonderful world of Mondo posters? Have a great weekend my writer friends. And remember, a half finished book, is a half finished love affair.

  1. I'm a huge fan of most things associated with Alamo. The "don't text" commercial they did with Patton Oswalt is amazing. I still regret not getting this poster http://www.mondoarchive.com/poster/the-texas-chainsaw-massacre/ when it was in print.

  3. Mondo sounds cool. If I were rich, I'd have a theater room filled with awesome movie posters.

  4. So buy a couple, frame them, and hang them on your wall.

  5. I used to live in Austin (and have been to the Alamo Drafthouse~ nothing like sipping a beer with your movie to brighten the evening) and I'm going there over Labor Day weekend! Very cool posters :)

  6. Some of those are good. I suppose Austin is more liberal because there's a university there. One of my favorite novelists, Elizabeth McCracken, is a teacher there, so you should go live there and you could take her class.

  7. Austin is a great town, and I love the Mondo posters. I should really have some of them in my house. Love the Jedi and Dark Knight posters.

  8. Interesting artwork. Some of these look like they might have been unselected proofs, designs not chosen for major distribution, which might be why they've become collectibles.

  11. Yeah, I could live in Austin. I love Austin. Well, except for the humidity. Of course, it wasn't any different from when I lived in LA, but I've been away from the land of humidity for so long, I don't know if I could go back. Even to Austin.

    You know, Dallas isn't so bad, either. I mean, it's not as conservative as the rest of the state.

    Those are awesome prints! I'd own almost everyone of them if I had a place to put them.

  14. @Brad: Great pick Mr. Cole. *hugs. I love hearing from you.

    @Cindy: I agree.

    @Brinda: Agreed. Here's to hoping that we can both be part of the 1% some day. We could wave to our neighbors "Paris" and "Rihanna".

    @Alex: Dude, I have a one-bedroom apartment.

    @Jess: Oh. So jealous.

    @P.T.: Sounds like a great endorsement.

    @Tim: Agreed.

    @Stephen: These aren't distributed. These are done as kind of "fan art" but with limited license. So they definitely are very collectible.

    @Tonja: I love how the trees make Vader's eyes.

    @DPK: Ayep. Nerd at heart.

    @Andrew: I've been to Dallas. Pass.

    @Callie: I know, right?

    @Matthew: Thanks for the link and the visit.

  19. Make the visit and buy just one. Even an apartment can hold one. Then you've made a step toward that 1%.

  20. Great. There are only two or three movies that freak me out and Hellraiser is one of them. Thanks, Michael. I'm going to have nightmares about that guy tonight. Ugh.
