How To Write A Steamy, Hot, Mind-Blowing Sex Scene the Scarlett Johannson Way

Here's some Valentine's Day fun.  Have a Great Monday XOXO

  1. I'm a big fan of graphic organizers. They give the information at a glance. You don't find yourself bogged down by paragraphs. Quick and to the point.

I've yet to write a serious sex scene. The ones I've attempted have been quite subdued. I understand the possible use of an eraser and Frankenstein bolts as analogies for female body parts, but I can't figure out how either of them could be construed as sexy.

    Thanks for the post!

  2. I think I was just trying to be funny O.o But I did get the cherries, frankenstein bolts, and pencil eraser suggestions from a website outlining 12 steps to writing a successful sex scene. There's was very serious though and I thought I'd make fun of it with Scarlett Johannson and a little PhotoShop magic.

  3. So, you're saying my innocent poetry about frankenstein bolts may have been the reason for my high school crush hating me? Where were you sixteen years ago?

  10. Thanks for stopping by fellow crusader. It's funny you mentioned "Tiger MOM". I have an article by Amy Chua on my desk that was given to me by a friend.

  11. Hi! Thanks for the comment on my blog and for subscribing! When I replied I didn't mention that I also write erotica, which I may never EVER publish and imagine my surprise when I come to check out your blog and find a post about writing a sex scene! It was like a sign...

And you're a fellow Crusader too! Another sign :D

  13. Following back crusader. ;) I've never written a steamy love scene. But I would love to try. (I write middle grade.Soo there's not much call for it with me.) But I'd venture to say it would be an EXCELLENT writing exercise. :)

Funny valentines Day post. I loved it.

  14. M.C.Howe: Yeah I picked on Scarlett today. I'm totally planning a bickering Housewives entry.

Raising: I've had many discussions regarding Amy Chua with my friend Meg who's considering starting her own blog on parenting.

Annem: I love well-written erotica. In my opinion, it is as legit a genre as anything else and should be considered just as literary. I think our society is sexually repressed and frowns on people expressing themselves through language in that way.

Charlie: Your drawings are adorable. :)

  23. I miss writing love scenes but I don't think I was all that good at it. It never felt completely comfortable.

  24. My advice on sex scenes is simple: keep them brief, keep them focussed, and as a general guide, write about the foreplay and the build-up and then bring the scene to an end before the full-on act. Allude to what will follow but don't spell it out. The reader's imagination will be far more erotic than anything you can write.
