Jim Carrey Is The Next Internet Meme

So in the celebrity-addled culture worship of the United States, the latest casualty appears to be Jim Carrey.  Does this kind of make me sad? A little bit. I admit that I enjoyed Jim Carrey's rise as funnyman Fire Marshall Bill during "In Living Color" which had me rolling on the floor laughing my ass off more than once.  I liked the original Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and I also liked Liar, Liar and Me, Myself, and Irene.  Every other movie though that he's made since then, has been complete and utter crap.  Without exception, Mr. Popper's Penguins is the latest in a string of duds in a career that might as well be over.
Jenny McCarthy

But who cares, right?  I mean the guy is a mega-millionaire. I would have thought he was happy, especially with Jenny McCarthy as his girlfriend, right?  Well she left him...and I guess he's in an epic mid-life crisis.

Why does the mid-life crisis even exist for men? Well I think it has a lot to do with men having egos that are too big for the super-dome and they simply have these egos because, well, they have testosterone (Munk is the lone exception to this).  My co-worker put it especially poignant when we walked to 7-Eleven to get our morning coffee and to share half of an apple fritter from Crispy Creme (YES I KNOW I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT THEM BUT THEY ARE DELICIOUS! F/U CRISPY CREME /shakes fist at the sky). Anyway, my co-worker said, "The severity of the mid-life crisis depends on the vanity of the man."  I believe this.  If you are really vain...oh boy is fifty (or age for that matter) gonna hit you like a ton of bricks.
Emma Stone

So here's the YouTube video of Carrey destroying his career.  He says it's a joke.  Well the joke is on him.  It's a fifty-year-old washed-up actor and comedian with a saggy body getting a hard-on for a voluptuous 22-year-old Emma Stone.  Jim Carrey...welcome to the next huge internet meme as you are made fun of by EVERYONE in the world.
Pretty creepy, right?

How would you feel if you were a 22-year-old girl and a 50-year-old man made a YouTube for you like this?  He should have read my review of American Gods and realized, yes you are rich. No, this does not make you an American God.  I doubt he reads anyway.  Stupid is as stupid does.

  1. I think it shouldn't matter what celebrities do or don't do. If a normal person does something stupid, they get laughed at and its forgotten. This poor guy gets laughed at for the rest of his life.

  2. I'm not sure whether to feel shocked or saddened by this clip. At first I thought it's Carrey up to his usual tricks (he did say it was a joke after all) but then he seriously looked like he wanted to cry. Either it wasn't meant as a joke or he's a lot better at acting than we give him credit for.

Either way, I'm with Teresa. People do stupid things all the time. Just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you're not immune to such stupidities. They are only human, just like us.

  3. lol...just visited his website, TruLife. Yeah, I think this is just a publicity stunt - a creepy publicity stunt.

  4. I've never been a Jim Carry fan. I liked Mask in the day but I kind of feel like he plays the same part in every movie.

  5. Aw... Well, I've always been a big JC fan (though, I have to admit, I was reluctant to see Mr. Poppers Penguins because... well, come on, I'm 27!). I have to agree with the mid-life crisis thing, though - the bigger they (or in this case their ego) is, the harder they fall!

  6. Joke or not, I think he needs to grow up and find someone his own age. He's also smart enough to know everyone would be talking about this, so not feeling sorry for him.

  7. Haven't seen the video, I'm having technical issues at the moment, but I have a personal belief that the less I know about celebrities the better. They tend to disappoint.

  8. First of all, Jim Carrey is Canadian so he'd be a Canadian God. I'd agree that he hasn't had a good movie since about 1998. Maybe he and Charlie Sheen should go on tour together and just leave of trail of empty bottles and sluts in their wake.

  9. It feels like a joke to me, but I don't really care, because the only reaction I had was, "Ewwwwwwww." Which might have been the reaction Jim was looking for.

  10. The only jc movie I really like is The Majestic. I have to agree this video is a bit creepy. I don't really get what's supposed to be funny about it.

  11. Hey, leggo my ego, I can have a mid-life crisis too goddamnit! How much for the women?

...or were you saying I have no testosterone? C'mon, play fair... it's a medical condition, gimme a break.

  12. Oh, man, but what about Eternal Sunshine? That movie was great. It was. We own it. And, mostly, we only own great movies (except for a few that are part of series with great movies). I also liked The Truman Show.
I've never been a real fan of Carrey's, although I've never been an anti-fan, either.

Mostly, I do try to not care about what celebrities, including politicians, are up to. It also bothers me that the news is so filled with crap about what they're doing that it's impossible to avoid.

  13. Creepy, ew and not going to work like Charlie Sheen's stunts did.

  14. Sitting at my desk and too lazy to plug in the speakers to hear what Carrey actually said. Gonna remedy that later. I can't even begin to imagine what stupidity I'm gonna hear. 50 - 22? Yuck!

  15. Yeah, I don't want to know. I just don't.

  16. I liked The Truman Show, he wasn't so manic in that one.

I'm of the opinion that this is a publicity stunt gone badly wrong, with maybe a grain of truth in it. Whatever, I think it backfired horribly.

  17. Without a doubt, a creepy video. But, it has to be a joke. The fake chin movement, the whispered "I love you" at the end. Fake.
I happen to like his silly humor, but I'm also a fan of Monty Python and the Stooges!

  18. I don't really follow celebrities at all. I like movies, but I've got my own life to worry about, thank you. :D

This has got to be a joke. Is it wrong that I find "inappropriate" funny?

I've gotta say, my skin would be crawling if I were Emma Stone. But I'm not, and so I laugh.

  19. That video is pretty creepy. It's too bad Jim Carrey has fallen this low.

  20. Yeah. I don't get it. Not funny, JC. Not funny.

  22. Jim Carey did have a string of great movies, and not so great ones. I loved The Mask and The Truman Show.

It's got to be a joke. I'm all believing in the midlife crisis (my husband bought a motorcycle last year, after all), but I think it's just a joke gone bad.

    We can only hope.

  23. A LOT creepy, but probably just a really bad idea for a laugh and total cry for relevance. The fame monster rearing it's ugly head, no more. That's my vote.

    Dumb & Dumber FTW

  24. Hey, Michael, joining club awesome via the Platform Building Campaign. Also, I see lot of my friends hanging out here. :)

Nice to meet you. Agreed, the video is creepy.

  25. What was he thinking? Saw something on Yahoo this morning about it. Oh boy! I guess when you have money, you can call this sort of behaviour...eccentric?

  26. Hmm... I'm thinking he did it for attention. Uh.. yeah... I think he got it.

  27. I think this is a publicity stunt gone wrong, and very sad. Too rich, I'd say.

  28. Gah. I don't even know how to respond to that. It's sad, but who really knows what the purpose is, honestly.

  29. Beyond creepy and weird - joke or not I made it half way through before I shut it off and that was only because I dropped something I had to retrieve and couldn't get to he stop button quick enough....

  30. As a Canadian, dare I admit that Jim Carrey is Canadian? Ummm..no, eh!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I heard about it and wondered what his publicist was thinking!

  32. I hadn't seen this, and I think I could have gone without. Jim Carrey is now a creepy old man. Yuck.

  33. This is sad and creepy beyond words! I was never a Jim Carrey fan I am relieved to say!

  34. Celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be. I kinda feel sorry for the man.

  35. Nice blog! Yeah this is a little creepy and an odd decision, but for me it's definitely a joke. Meant to get people talking and it's done the trick!

  36. i thought it was hilarious.... clearly a joke

  37. Joined the club also and found this funny blog. About JC, I also had technical issues so couldn't watch. And I usually do not follow celebs. But I did catch a momentary glimpse of a contemporary him in a still shot, and boy he's gotten old. Maybe that's why everybody's fussing so. Their own fear of aging and death is reflected in his face.

  38. OK, here's the thing. I'm not a huge Jim Carrey fan. He's funny when he's goofy and sometimes touching when he's serious. But that video was nothing less than creepy. If he was trying to be funny then he should have put in more jokes. If we was trying to be serious he shouldn't have put the camera right in his face and started talking about having babies. Just weird.
