This footage from Mad Max: Fury Road just proves that it was robbed by Spotlight at the Academy Awards

Mad Max: Fury Road was a miracle of a film from beginning to end. I'm still a little shocked that it failed to win Best Picture earlier this year at the Academy Awards. But if you still aren't sold on how much effort went into making this film, please PLEASE watch this video. It shows just how much of the movie was real, how much was stunt work, and that the actors were totally committing themselves to a very controlled (dangerous) chaos.

Twenty years from now, no one will even remember Spotlight (the film that actually won Best Picture). But people will still be talking about Mad Max: Fury Road. And to anyone that says the plot was too basic, I think it was actually brilliant. After everything the characters had gone through to get where they were, they realized they had nowhere to go but back the way they had come. And after a solid thirty minutes of heart-stopping action sequences, the entire audience groaned “Oh shit!” exactly at that second because we ALL knew what would come next. And we were not disappointed.

Thank you, George Miller.

  1. You don't have to convince me. I thought the film was brilliant. No one does live action scenes like that anymore.

  2. Great stunts don't equal a great movie.

    2. I would have voted for Star Wars or The Martian.

  4. Mad Max was brilliant and should have won best picture. George Miller took younger directors to school and showed to be truly great you need a mix of CG and practical effects.

For me, that wasn't the Academy's biggest offense against this movie. How did Charlize Theron not get a nomination for Best Actress? The way she portrayed Furiousa gave an emotional weight rarely seen in an action movie and made the title a character secondary concern. She gave an amazing performance.

  5. It's sci fi. The Academy hates sci fi. Some years the Academy gets it right, but if you look at the list of best picture winners, it leaves off a lot of great films (and includes some not-so-great ones).

  6. Some times I miss stories with simple plots. My husband thinks that as we age we start going back to childhood, hence, simple stories and plots are easier for older people to understand.
Thank you for stopping by my blog. I have not been reading much, but I shall start soon. Work has slowed down a little.

  7. I have not seen Spotlight and have little interest to. I knew Mad Max: Fury Road was not going to win an Academy Award. It has all the flash, crazy antics and story line that just don't win Oscar gold. I loved the movie however and if Oscars were different, it would have won. I'll remember this movie forever.

  8. I've learned not to put much credence into the Academy Awards anymore. What seems to be the real reward is if the movie becomes one of those classics that people just fall in love with and watch again again years later. Me? I was pissed when Argo won best picture (very likely because it showed Hollywood people in a good light) and Lincoln lost. Lincoln also lost best screenplay adaptation to Argo, which was just plain wrong. And yes "Shakespeare in Love" was an excellent small picture, but winning over a breakthrough masterpiece like "Saving Private Ryan"? That was a crime.
