Lace Your Shoes

Does your protagonist wear sneakers? Try using one of these to give a little spin to their personality:

You can tell a lot by a person's shoes, I often say.

In the least, it's something that the non "tragically hip" can handle.

Have a great weekend :)

  1. This looks confusing... no wonder kids have trouble tying up their shoes... which method should they use... hehe

  2. Wow, I had no idea you could do all that withlace. Shame I moved over to slip ons.

  3. Wow, I only know two ways to lace shoes. I'm obviously hopelessly out of date.

  4. HA!HA! Actually I'm a velcro kind of gal. It's all about the easy on/easy off. And my protagonist is usually wearing boots.

  5. Keep in mind, though, if the characters are YA, that only girls are likely to TIE the laces in the shoes, and only then if they're not skater girls. Boys are only likely to tie their shoes if they're ready to play a sport.
Just my two bits from the junior high.....

  6. I wear loafers at work. I don't give much thought to how shoes are tied. I can barely tie mine as it is. I still use the bunny ears technique.

  7. Cool. I didn't know there were so many ways to do it. I do, however, have my main tennis shoes tied with the hidden knot

  8. ... and I wonder. Who spends so much time on their laces?

    :-/

  9. When did we start getting such fancy shoe laces? Wow, talk about a leisure time society. Kind of cool though.

  10. Oh, wow! Those look so cool and a little bit complicated. It's a great way to add some personality to a character, though.

  11. This is back in style? I guess it always comes back around. I used to always have my laces fixed up. Cute.

  12. I didn't realize the variety and complexity in tying shoes. I'm amazed and impressed. Nice analogy to developing characters.

  13. Wow. Just wow! =D And most kids just hope to get the things tied!

  14. My nerd heart just squeed over this post. I'm totally doing this to my pair of shoes when I get home from class (bit suspect to do it while the prof is talking).

  15. Wow -- a very educational post. I had no idea there were so many varieties! Might have to share these with my students...

  16. I'll have to show this to my dd. She loves messing around with her laces.

  17. That's really neat! I'm going to have to try some of those with my Converse! :-)

  22. Even at my age I think that "Chekerboard" is neat. Also, is "Bush Walk" associated with either of the Presidents?

  23. Guess when it comes to laces, I'm boring.

  24. Holy cow! Those are cool. I wonder if I could figure out half of them. So fun though!

I hope you can make it to the Utah Writers conference tomorrow! It'd be fun to meet you in person!

  25. Hey, these are cool! I have seen a couple of these, but not most of them. I might even be hip enough to do some! (I sure love that lattice)

  26. That's pretty cool. You find the neatest things. Gonna show this to my son.

  27. Those are cool!

I'll have to try them sometime--on my own shoes and for my characters. LOL.

  28. Obviously some kids have way to much time on their hands :) I got hopelessly lost in some of those configurations.

  29. I love shoe decoration. Way back in the stone ... er, 80's, printed shoelaces were the craze in all sorts of colors and patterns.

I'll have to go get some laces for my sneakers and come back. :)

  30. Some of those look seriously complicated. Yikes. I'm going to ask my son (8) which he likes and give it a go on his sneaks! :D

  31. Some of these are super cool. :)

  32. Ooooh. Pretty.

Too bad I don't own any shoes that have laces anymore. I may have to get a pair now.

  33. Some of those seem a bit impractical. But I'd be tempted to go with the ladder technique... unless this is some Rorschach test and I just gave something away about myself by choosing that. If that's the case then none of them appealed to me.

  34. Your post just proved that I have no fashion sense whatsoever. I've always tied mine, Never knowing that variations were an option.

  35. These are so cool! I remember always trying to think of creative ways to lace up my sneakers! I even did some of these ones! Hope you have a fabulous weekend too :)

  36. Looking forward to your picks for the Worst Movies Ever Blogfest on Monday!

  37. LOL. Some of those look so complicated I'd spend all day trying to figure them out. I'm glad my protagonists are aliens. I've never once described them as wearing sneakers. :)

  38. Who knew you could do so much with a shoelace aside from strangling someone!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I had no idea you could tie a shoe in so many ways! I guess that means that if you looked at my shoes, you'd think boring. Darn.

  40. I never in my life actually thought, before today, that there might be more than one way of lacing shoes. I honestly did not. I see now just how sheltered my life has been.

  41. Wow, I've always wondered how that's done! I guess I should shed these flip flops and give it a try.
