Happy Holidays 2017 edition.

This is my last post for 2017. I'll be back for the Insecure Writer's Support Group January 2018 edition. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I saw the new Star Wars movie last night (of course I did, right?) I'm not going to give any spoilers, but I did want to comment on how whiny Luke Skywalker is. When I said this to my bf Brad Habegger, he was like, "Luke Skywalker has always been a whiny bitch." And I started to think about it, and he's right. I guess I never really noticed.

So the movie does this really well. They hold to character, I suppose. I don't know why I noticed it so much now except that Mark Hamill is old, and he still behaved the way he did in the seventies and eighties on screen. I guess back then I was under this assumption that adulthood somehow makes people different than what they were back in the day. I should know better. People have pretty much the same minds and bodies as they did when they were young, it's just when they are old they walk around in saggy skin and wrinkles.

So yeah...I hope you don't think that's a spoiler...but old Luke Skywalker is a whiny bitch.

See you in 2018.

  1. Seeing it in less than two hours. I have been warned about the whining.
    Have a great Christmas!

  2. I just saw the new Star Wars movie and I now understand what Mark Hamill was saying in interviews when he read the script and complained 'but Luke wouldn't do that!' In the interview he said he eventually realized Rian Johnson was right but I'm not really sure. I would have loved if this movie could have taken more time to delve into the crevises of Luke's psyche but I'm also sure it would have killed the movie's pacing. I've seen a ton of negative reviews from fans but I'd bet we would have seen a similar response from Empire Strikes Back when it released. For me, I'm going to need a couple of rewatches to focus on Luke specifically.

My quick reaction is to rank it 4th of the 8. New Hope, Empire, Sith, Last Jedi, Return, Awakens, Clones, Menace. I liked The Force Awakens originally but I didn't think it held up well after I saw it a few more times. That may happen with Last Jedi too.

  3. He's not as whiny as Anakin at least. Happy Holidays!

  4. I hadn't noticed the whining. Maybe his voice just has a natural whiny tone.
Will be looking for it when I see the movie. Will be looking forward to your first post next year.

  8. I don't think I would put that in the whiny category.
But I do need to go see it again to get a better grip on the movie.

  9. In A New Hope, he whined about staying on the moisture farm and going to Toshi Station to get some power converters. BUT, he was an optimist. In TLJ, he's done a 360.
I loved the new movie, although it was about as painful as a kick to the nuts. Sure, this movie knocked over every sacred cow of this franchise, but it needed a good jolt.
