Winter is coming and that of course means Sochi and not the White Walkers

This trailer for the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics is frickin' awesome. At first I thought I was watching a trailer for HBO's season four "Game of Thrones" especially since it's narrated by Charles Dance who plays Tywin Lannister. Well it turns out that this is just superb marketing. And yeah, despite the fact that Putin is a complete bigot, I'm excited for our athletes to bring home some gold.

Had you seen this commercial? If so, what did you think of it?

I won't be posting Monday (as its a holiday) so I'll see you next Wednesday.

  1. I've seen it and that is one of the best Olympics commercials I have ever seen. I like the winter ones better than the summer. Bring on the hockey!

  2. I hope we win lots of gold medals to rub it in Putin's stupid face, but I'm sure he'll rig things so his people win more.

  3. I do especially enjoy the story of how Putin stole a Patriots Superbowl ring from the team owner. He just showed up, asked to see it, and when the owner took it off his finger for Putin to examine, the man took off with it and had his goons make menacing looks while he he fled.

    I mean, damn.

Pres Bush told him not to turn it into an international incident. So bizarre.

  7. Brilliant marketing. I don't care about the Olympics much, but the commercial gave me chills. And made me really look forward to the new season of GoT.

  8. Wishing all the athletes all the best. Especially with all the non-Olympics drama going on.

  9. Very cool commercial, although traditionally we don't do very well at the Winter Olympics. Figure skating was our thing for a bit, but now not so much.

  10. I had not seen that before. Great marketing. I enjoy some of the Winter Olympics but I get bored with all the non-competition story stuff they do. Enjoy the long weekend.

  11. Great commercial. I hear Americans aren't booking very many flights to these Olympics. My big concern is for the safety of our athletes. I have serious concerns.

  15. I hadn't seen that, but I like it. It has a Scifi touch, so of course I would like it.

  16. I had not seen this commercial before and I can see why you thought it was for Game of Thrones (or why someone might think it is a new movie). What a fantastic and clever way to draw everyone in! Awesome! Thanks for sharing. :)

  17. Go USA! YEAH MAN! Shall we bring ALL the gold home? I hope so. Putin sucks. That's just how I'll put it. The trailer is marketing genius! WOWOW. I have not seen it until today.

I hope you're doing well, pal. *waves madly*

  18. Too bad Putin's bigotry and all the terrorism threats is taking center stage at these Games so far. Hopefully, once everything starts, that the athletes become the focus again.

  21. Russia is a beautiful country with extremely friendly people.
I don't watch Winter Olympics because, unlike the summer ones, my country doesn't have many athletes in winter sports.
And no scantily clad athletes to be seen there :)

  22. I'm with you on the Winter Olympics - torn between not supporting the bigotry and being excited to watch as much as I can
