Six things I absolutely loved from the premier of Supergirl on the CW.

Supergirl premiered on the CW for its second season Monday night, and of course I loved it. They didn't hold back on anything either. Right off the bat, Clark Kent (as Superman) showed up, and it was refreshing to see a more light-hearted version of the Supes (instead of the brooding dark one that we've seen in the movies destroying cities in practically every scene). Maybe we should all just admit that this series (and Benoist) are a national treasure. After all, her bursts of silliness are what all of us need this month leading up to the election.

So here are six things I loved: 1) the Flash cameo in the opening credits (because I can never get enough Grant Gustin), 2) the fact that even with Superman around the show managed to stay central to Kara Zor El, 3) Cat Grant was back (I heard a rumor that the actress that played her was thinking of moving on from the series, and I'm so glad that didn't happen),  4) Cat Grant yelling, "Miss Tescmacher!" was awesome (for those of you who don't know...Miss Tescmacher was Luthor's love interest/henchwoman from the 1978 Superman film, and she comes and goes in comics canon), 5) the idea of Cat Grant sending Clark Kent drunken sexts was the absolute best, and 6) an actor and writer got both Supers right. They managed to capture what makes Superman and Supergirl dynamic heroes. Case in point: after they save the rocket and are confronted by innocent bystanders, Kara says, "This is where I usually say hi," and he says the same. It's moments like these that build character.

All in all, this premiere episode felt like a reboot (or a pilot for a brand new series). It's got me excited, and I think Supergirl has found its home alongside all the rest of the DC lineup on the CW.

With Supergirl moving to the CW the likelihood of a Justice League of America series just got better

Supergirl is moving to the CW for season two. This is great news. I liked watching Supergirl on CBS, but I always felt that it was out of place. It needed to be on the same network as The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. And now, it's looking like there will be lots more crossovers between the series, which I think is a great stroke of fortune for the DC side of television.

The Superman mythos is pretty incredible when you actually sit down to think about it (strong enough it seems to be fertile ground for endless stories). For one, kryptonite was a great source for "monster of the week" type episodes. But the doomed planet of Krypton, and the clues that Jor-El left on Earth for Kal-El to find was a great source of entertaining story arcs in Smallville. Having those worlds kind of merge with the multiple universes of The Flash and with the Batman-esque rogue's gallery of Arrow is probably going to mean some bigger team ups. And I love team ups and shared universes, because they're lots of fun. Oh and did I mention that with Supergirl comes Martian Manhunter? I really can't wait for the inevitable Arrow, Flash, Supergirl triple crossover week. It's going to be awesome.

Now on my wishlist is a return of Wonder Woman to the small screen and a return of the Green Lantern. At that point, the CW could literally launch a Justice League of America for the small screen, which would satisfy all of my nerd buttons by punching them multiple times. I love the CW. I think it's my favorite network.

The Supergirl and Flash crossover had some pretty great moments and I hope it happens again.

When the Flash and Supergirl got together, it actually was better than watching cats on the internet (which is probably why the internet was invented in the first place). I've always liked the lighter feel of the Flash and teaming up with Supergirl (which also has a much lighter feel to it) seemed like a perfect fit. And then (of course) there was this moment early on:

up with ice cream. By the way, I'm jealous that Barry needs to eat 10,000
calories a day just to stay thin. That's a superpower with some kick to it.

I love the expression on Supergirl's face when she realizes that she has ice cream. But there's no way Barry paid for it so there is that issue...Barry you thief! Unless of course he just left a $20 and was like "keep the change." But there were so many great moments from the crossover. Seriously. And the best line of the night went to Cat Grant who kinda/sorta had a Deadpool-esque "break the fourth wall moment" when she commented that the cast of characters before her looked like the youth-obsessed, attractive, and racially diverse cast of a CW show. Oh my.

I suppose racially diverse and attractive does describe this cast. Cat Grant
nailed it. But then again, she is the CEO of a large company.

And then there was the fact that the Flash just loves that Kara is an alien. He wants her to take a picture of him standing in front of her spaceship, which is in this top secret government facility devoted to "very serious things." How can someone not love an episode that is poking fun at itself so intently?

I hope that CBS decides to renew Supergirl. It's had a pretty strong and convincing first season. As of this writing, there's been no word yet. The only thing I didn't like about the crossover was that it took place on a different Earth that Barry just happened to pop into. That makes it seem like crossovers might be harder. I would have liked them to be in the same universe. But hey, maybe if Supergirl gets canceled on CBS it could get picked up by the CW. That would be kinda fun, and they could fix the alternate universe stuff and start building a CW version of the Justice League. Now all they'd need is a t.v. version of Wonder Woman. I suppose they could go with "Wonder Girl" since all of these shows take place pre- "Crisis on the Infinite Earths." For what it's worth, I thought Wonder Girl was cooler than Wonder Woman in many ways (when she was with the Teen Titans).

Supergirl airs on CBS on Monday after Big Bang Theory and I hope it will be good.

The Supergirl pilot airs Monday on CBS directly after Big Bang Theory. I know the pilot leaked online about six months ago, but I never bothered tracking it down and watching it. Instead, I'm content to wait it out just a few more days and watch it live on CBS. I'm sure it'll be good. Why? Because I trust the showrunner, Greg Berlanti, who is the genius behind the CW's amazing comic book adaptations of Green Arrow and The Flash. Also, I gotta say that I love the idea of Supergirl. She's absolutely got the power to deal with heavy hitter supervillains, and it's going to be different than yet another Superman reboot (which has been done to death).

But there are a few nagging questions that I have. The first is obviously whether or not Supergirl will take place in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash. I think it would be awesome to have crossovers galore on television, but I'm not so sure how CBS would feel about doing that with the CW. Additionally, is Supergirl going to be unapologetically a girl? And if so, will that turn some people off when the character of Kara is in non-superhero mode? And I wonder if there will be any sexist trolls that come out complaining that the actress doesn't feature an "in your face" rack for men to stare at.
