My Chemical Romance have you heard the news that you're dead? No one ever had much nice to say but I really liked you anyway

How could anyone not be in love with these incredibly talented
musicians and singers? I'm SO MAD RIGHT NOW!
Okay, so just when I thought that March of 2013 couldn't punch me in the gut one more time, I hear that one of my favorite bands has broken up. WTF?! Seriously guys? You couldn't have waited until April.

So now I've lost The Clone Wars, Young Justice, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and My Chemical Romance???
Please, Please, Please let this just be an angsty, "I'm mad at everyone," phase
and take like a year or two off and then come back together again guys.
Hold on a second while I clear my throat and yell "AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!"

There..I feel just a wee bit better. So, you might be wondering why I loved "My Chemical Romance." Well there's many reasons actually, but probably the most prominent one is that I've been listening to them for literally seven years. I think that none of their songs sound the same, they wore elaborate costumes which appeal to me, and they seemed to be a band built around ideas and actions, hopes and dreams, with song lyrics that played hard and fast and were quite easy to understand.

Yes, they were loud but not the "kind of loud" that doesn't have an insane amount of talent behind it. They were without a doubt the emo band that I and many others loved because they saved people. MCR helped outsiders feel a little less alone. I look at my own catharsis that I felt every single time I played the song "Dead." I would literally describe it as an outflow of pent up anger at all the nameless people in my life that I perceive are oppressors--the damnable hordes of the self-righteous who are only appeased by failure from anyone that is not within their click.

So I guess us survivors are now left to pick up the pieces. I swear, 2013 is starting to look a lot like it's cursed.

Here's my favorite song from MCR. I think it's just incredible. It's called "Dead" and it seems oddly appropriate. Please listen to it if you have the time. It's wonderfully expressive and for me, definitely as good as any therapy session.
The members of "My Chemical Romance" were Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way, and Frank Iero. "The Black Parade" in 2006 was the album that made me a fan and to this day, I still listen to all of the songs on my way home to visit my parents (a four hour drive).

My Chemical Romance have you heard the news that you're dead? No one ever had much nice to say but I really liked you anyway. :'(

May you forever Rest in Peace. XOXO -A fan signing off.

  1. RIP, MCR! I was never a huge fan of them but I kind of like what they seemed to stand for, and Gerard Way is reminiscent of early years Billy Corgan who is the one I love most of all, so I guess he gets points for that :) I will watch this song when I'm at home, if I remember!! I really want to remember :)

  2. NO! My Chemical Romance can't be broken up. Why?! I love this band so much. They're my extra hard 21th century Green Day. I too hope this is an angsty phase that will work out.

  3. They have been around for a while. Not my kind of music, but very popular.

  4. I just heard that news a few hours ago on Sirius radio as I drove to work. Wonder why bands break up if they're successful?

  5. I'll try to give it a listen later. Can't, at the moment.

  6. I only listen to one song of theirs, the remake of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" used in "Watchmen." That was pretty awesome.

BTW, this week Comcast is offering free episodes of paid TV shows so now I can finally watch "Game of Thrones." I'm not sure how much I'll get through since there's 20 episodes and the promotion is only for a week (and I have to leave Saturday to go north for Easter) but maybe I can tape a few to watch later.

  7. Never heard of them, but sorry to hear something you like is going away. At least the music that they made will still be here for many years to come.

  8. Aw, sorry you're having a bad March. You'll always have their CD's, though.

  9. Twelve years is a pretty good run.

  10. Can't say I was a huge fan since they're a bit too morbid for my taste, but I did love their song WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE.

  11. I'm sorry for your loss. :( My daughter's pretty broken up about it too - she wailed outloud when she read the news on her iThingy.

But those songs you love so much aren't going anywhere - they can't take that from you.

  12. Aww that sucks when a band you love breaks up. But if they do get back together just think how fricking excited you'll be?

  13. Sorry you're sad about the band. I can't remember ever being sad when a band broke up. Maybe a little when The Police split.

  14. My condolences. Never heard any of their songs, but they seemed to have nice haircuts. They will be missed (although not by me).

  15. I guess one or two of them will go off and make their own music. Like so much of the stuff you watch, I haven't heard of them before.

  16. I have MCR on my playlist. Too bad they split up.

  17. Well, those are really cheerful lyrics (sorry -- such sarcasm).

I didn't know much about them, but I've been through other band break-ups and the deaths of TV shows I loved and it's kinda funny how much those little deaths hurt. Hope you find comfort in a new band soon.

  18. I liked it. So sad when a music group breaks up. I felt that way when Pink Floyd split up. Arrgghhh!

  22. Maybe they just need a break and will reform in a couple years. Or maybe one or more will go solo and you'll get some new good music. It's possible, right?

  23. Ah, I hadn't heard this news. :( Great song.

  24. MCR got me through some sketchy times. I've been a fan since 3 Cheers and have seen them twice in concert...both times amazing! I feel like they had so much more great stuff to give, but I have a certain respect for quitting before releasing crap. I'm listening to The Light Behind Your Eyes right now...one of my new favorite songs. RIP MCR!

  25. I was all ready to post up about MCR being dead as soon as they brought out 'Black Parade' for me, and about how the single from the last album could have been a pop song from a boy band blah, blah, blah, blah. But that was before I'd read you post.

I was a 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge' fan, and the subsequent albums didn't do much for me with the exception of a few songs. However, having just spent about 14 hours on trains to see Finch play their 10 year reunion gig of 'What it is to Burn' so that I could scream my little emo heart out to them live, I think I get it.

Having gone through this with many, many bands and the like, I have to say is "here's to My Chemical Romance, RIP".
