Here is my list of the awesome things I saw in Brave:
1) Merida's flaming red hair. You just have to see it.
2) At last, a female protagonist in the Pixar line of movies. I guess "Elastigirl" kinda/sorta counts, but Merida is better.
3) I saw animated haggis!
4) I saw a witch who used a cauldron as an answering machine!
5) The queen's hair with the two pony tails looked really cool.
6) And the lesson that the most important thing between a parent and a child may be communication. In other words, both sides need to really just stop and listen and then comprehend.
7) Bagpipes. I love bagpipes. More please.
8) Pixar animation. It gives me goosepimples.

Have a great Monday!
I can tell you had fun watching Brave. Awesome list. Especially love the flaming red hair and the top-notch animation.
ReplyDeleteI saw Brave yesterday. Loved it! And Merida's hair was just fantastic -- so much texture and movement! Pixar animation just keeps getting better and better, and their stories remain top notch.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking my Mum to see Brave next week, because I spent the whole movie thinking: "How good would this be to watch with my Mum?"
Looks like another Pixar classic. It doesn't open over here until the middle of August!!!

The Funnily Enough
A couple of critics said the story and script was substandard. I haven't seen it but with Pixar, I don't see how that is possible.
ReplyDeleteWe were all set to see it Friday night, and then the opportunity to go out with friends came up and we didn't go. Might see it next weekend.
ReplyDeleteI haven't see it, but I love most things done by Pixar.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could afford to see more movies. We're going to try to make it to this one this weekend, though.
ReplyDeleteunlike 3d animation software, which STILL sux, 2d animation's coming along very nicely, tyvm :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you didn't go see it by yourself. A 40-year-old guy seeing a kids movie alone just seems creepy. That's why I wait for DVD or Netflix (if at all) to watch these kind of things.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I have to wait three weeks before Brave is out in South Africa. *sniff sniff*
ReplyDeleteI think because so many Pixar films are home runs I had extremely high expectations. Wall-E might be the best animated film ever made; I consider it the best film of 2008. Finding Nemo is a fantastic film and Toy Story a genre redefining piece of cinema. With that in mind I was a bit disappointed. That is not to say Brave is bad. Far from it, it is a nice little film. I thought the script was a bit heavy on the pratfalls but beyond that it was pretty good. It was better than the Cars movies but not in the elite tier. Of course the animation always looks good with Pixar but I didn't think the 3d brought too much to the table (it wasn't bad but I think I would have enjoyed it just as much in 2d.)
ReplyDeleteQuestion for anyone who might have been paying attention. I caught two overt references to other Scottish films, Braveheart and The Wicker man. Did I miss any other films? I was surprised that there were no Macbeth references.
I'm soooo excited to see this movie! First off, red hair. Need I say more? Second, bag pipes! Yes, bag pipes! And third, er... it just looks fun ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see this. Each time Pixar comes out with a new film their animation gets better. I don't know how they do it, but they top themselves every time.
ReplyDeleteI'm not reading this post. I'm not reading this post. I'm not reading this post. I'm not reading this post.
ReplyDeleteIt does look so cool. Now I want to see it.
ReplyDeleteI very much approved of the amount of nudity in this movie. Also, it reinforced how much i love bears and why i want to be a wear-bear. And the soundtrack was great.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Brad, it wasn't top of the list for me, regarding Pixar films, but it was definitely a solid little film. We laughed quite a bit
LOL! We saw this over the weekend and LOVED it! Seriously... her hair ROCKS! I love it. And she is a great heroine! So many great things in this movie!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous!!!! I know it'll be at least two weeks until I find time to go see it...
ReplyDeleteNeed to see this, most likely after Spider-Man. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see it
ReplyDeleteI really want to see this! I love Pixar movies. I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD, though as none of my friends seem to want to see it. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking me to this! :) Really enjoyed sharing it. Might have to go again sometime in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI felt about 1/3 of the way through, I could see the pattern and how it would likely play out. But, in spite of that, I enjoyed it. Mama bear's mannerisms were great! I also really liked the way the mother and daughter grew over the course of the show.
Looks like with R's return, our movie plans might not work out like we wanted - at least not at my house. :(
I can't wait to watch Brave. It's going to be soo good.
ReplyDeleteah, you forgot to mention red headed triplets :)))
ReplyDeleteI love bagpipes too :) And the cauldron thing sounds funny.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the movie, and the overall message. We need more like that, not just entertainment.
........dhole
After reading this, I think I'm going to have to see this one -- hadn't heard of it. Loved your post and excitement!
ReplyDeleteI really want to see this once, but I have a feeling I'll be waiting for it to come to Redbox...
ReplyDeleteAnimated haggis?! Sold!
ReplyDeleteOoo, animated haggis. This is one of the few animateds that interest me. Perhaps because of the female hero.
ReplyDeleteAww! Brave looks like the cutest movie and a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThis one is on my to-see list, especially after reading your list. I love the idea of a young girl who rebels and is a whiz at archery, and a witch with a cauldron-cum-answering service. As far as the animation goes, the trailer of the movie has already taken my breath away. What glorious masses of hair!
ReplyDeleteI'm also with you on the bagpipes. Love 'em like crazy.
Awwww, I wanna see Brave. But I was stuck with a mother who just had foot surgery this weekend, so I didn't get out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe next weekend.
Wasn't it just awesome! I have to admit that since I was watching it with all 4 of my kids (including 2 teen daughters) I might have cried a couple of times. Yep, I'm living this movie and I'm not Merida. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by to let you know that you've been tagged in today's blog post.

I can't wait to see Brave. We are going as a big family. Grandparents and all. Kids are super excited. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd from my 4-year-old niece, I heard there were butt-cheeks. Haha.
ReplyDeleteOh, we saw that this weekend - really great! And I agree about her hair. I caught myself looking at it a few times :)
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to take my kids to see this on the big screen but I've been told it's a bit scary for little ones under 7. Sounds like a great movie though.
