Establish A Goal and Stick To It

I Haz Cheezburger
<== This is Donna Simpson. She's from New Jersey and has a unique goal in life. She wants to be the fattest woman in the world (not making this up). She already weighs over 600 pounds and has set her sight on the big 1K.  Yes, you read that right, she really does want to weigh 1,000 pounds.

If you wanted to, you could follow her progress here (note that the link is not suitable for work). It's a website for anyone that wants to watch her eat for a fee. It's basically how she pays for the $750.00 a week food bill she generates. She's 42-years-old and diligently eats 12,000 calories a day.

Gobble! Gobble!
However, on days like Christmas, she goes "all out".  In two hours, she ate approximately 30,000 calories for her Christmas feast. It consisted of two 25-pound turkeys, two maple-glazed hams, 15-pounds of potatoes (10-pounds roasted and 5-pounds were mashed), five-pounds of herb stuffing, four-pints of gravy, four-pints of cranberry dressing, 20-pounds of vegetables, and a "salad" made of marshmallows, cream cheese, whipped cream, and cookies. Sounds yummy doesn't it?  I know...I too want to go out to eat now.

So what do we learn about our craft oh writers of the world?  What does the great (pun intended) Donna Simpson have to teach us?
This x 2

1) Well duh...this woman knows how to set goals and follow through with them. You know how professionals recommend that you're supposed to write a certain amount every day?  Well she eats a certain amount every day keeping that eye on the prize (or being the fattest woman in the world in her case). She's basically a writer...only she eats her manuscript instead of writing it.

2) That creating buzz about yourself works. She's all over the internet now and has a goal to be picked up by a reality t.v. show. I mean, like, isn't this how America operates? Oh how did anything function without Facebook and Twitter (deep sigh).

So yeah...learn from Donna Simpson and set your writing goal and stick to it!

New Jersey is such an awesome place. First it gave us The Jersey Shore and now this. I can only wonder at the things New Jersey will offer us in the future :)..
Are you gonna eat that?

  3. Sticking to your goals is so admirable...most of the time...

  4. She's just going to cost the taxpayers money eventually when they have to saw their way into her home after she goes into cardiac arrest. There's a lot of people online that think she's unfit to be a mother and want social services to go in and take away her two kids. She has to have a scooter to get around and can only walk about six feet before she has to sit down. Yet, she still wants to gain 400 more pounds...she's proud of her accomplishment.

  5. Well. There's points for determination, certainly. :)

  6. Oh my gosh! Great analogy, but I must say...it's disturbing that there are people trying to reach 1000 pounds. I really don't understand it!

  7. Goals, yes.... But this person really needs to be analyzed. Why would anyone put their body or her two children through this?

  8. *Blinks* Umm...my manuscript doesn't look like such a 'hefty' goal after all. (Hugs)Indigo

  9. Oh my gosh, I cannot believe that this is real. I admire her for sticking with a goal with so much dedication but I'm worried about her health! And perfect point about how people become famous these days. Everyone seems to be getting their 15 minutes from the craziest things. Social networking is changing all of our relationships, haha. Love this post.

  10. ...and now I never want to eat again. Thanks for the new diet! When I want to eat, I'll come look at this. I love that you related it to writing though. I feel great when I meat (yes food is on the mind) my goals. I kind of think Donna might die before she meets hers, though. Just sayin'.

  11. Disturbing ... so so disturbing. Let's just hope there is no reality show in her future, if she has one.

    I like my goal better.

  14. This actually makes me feel sick. :( There is something very wrong in this chick's head.

  15. Yeah it's better to be infamous than no kind of famous.

  16. Well, maybe she was fat from birth. Maybe it was her gift and she decided to embrace it instead of denying it. ;) But thank you so much for sharing! This made my day. If I could be as good of a writer as she is, er, rotund, it would be awesome!

  17. I guess it's all about perspective, isn't it? Although from just about any angle you'd think you'd just look at this and say "NO! This is not a good idea."

  18. Ummm, that's crazy. Just crazy. You'd think someone would say, wait a minute here. You're going to kill yourself by doing this.

I can't even participate in watching someone do that and those who would, well, it's just sad really. If they make a TV show out of that, then man, the world is going to a very warm place in a lovely wicker basket.

But I do see your point. If we as writers are going to perfect our craft we have to write. We have to write everyday. I get it. I do.

By the way, new follower here. Saw your bio on the side bar and except for the fact that you're a guy, we're a lot a like. (I love meeting Utah writers--love it).

    Thanks for sharing your post.

  19. Think she'll survive to 1K?

I don't think I could eat that much manuscript...
