A trip to Universal Studios Orlando to see the new Kong ride is what I need to make happen this year.

I gotta say, the new King Kong ride at Universal Orlando makes me think I need to make a trip to Florida. If not for that, to see Harry Potter World and of course visit the Disney empire. But as most of you know, there's always a special place in my heart for kaiju themed things. And this video teaser just sounds too cool to miss.
In case you haven't heard, this summer Universal Studios Orlando is opening a massive King Kong-themed ride called Skull Island: Reign of Kong. All of it looks pretty much like the Peter Jackson film King Kong that came out about ten years ago brought to life. I have always loved the King Kong story because I like the period it takes place in (the 1930's), and it kind of reminds me of some H.P. Lovecraft stories I really like--the particular element in this storytelling is that there's some ancient civilization out there in the ocean and we only see the remnants of it (big walls, etc.) and huge monsters. You've got to have kaiju.

Oh and if you watched the Oscars last night, you saw Mad Max: Fury Road get robbed! It was robbed right in front of everyone! Just sayin'...

  1. Mad Max wasn't even in my top ten of the year.

  2. It does look impressive.
I didn't expect Fury Road to win the big ones, but it nailed six, the most of any movie last night.

  3. One thing about those parks, get the tickets ahead of time, go in the off-season because those places are crowded and read any tips you can about how to make it easier.

  4. I went to Universal Studios Orlando last summer (I go for Harry Potter World...) and I had no idea what they were building. I'm still mainly interested in Harry Potter World, but that's still cool. :)

  6. Way to turn it around. I fully expected a wild rant regarding the oscars, instead I'm surprised by Kong. The really bizarre thing is I haven't even heard of spotlight. Even a bigger surprise is that it's been ten years since King Kong was in theaters,Ohhh my good night fishI'm getting old.

  7. I knew Mad Max Fury Road was not going to win. Even worse it got six awards throughout the Oscars ensuring that without the Best Picture win no one could say it did not win anything. Spotlight is typical Oscar Bait and unfortunately that often wins. Have not seen Spotlight but I enjoyed the hell out of Mad Max Fury Road. That promo looks very intriguing. I'd ride that.

  8. Six Oscars for Mad Max is quite an achievement. I promised our son I'd see it with him and I guess I'd better keep my word.

  10. I had no idea there'll be a King Kong Skull Island at Orlando. I love the 30's too and especially the movies from the 20's through the 40's.

Haven't seen Mad Max (Or Spotlight or The Big Short), but I seriously loved Bridge of Spies--it was superb.
