So the main character is a tech wizard (and a boy) by the name of Hiro. So yeah...an Asian kid that's also a nerd. Nice right? When Hiro's brother dies, he inherits a robotic helper named Baymax. For the rest, I think you should just take a couple minutes and watch the trailer and decide for yourself. I think its filled with funny lines and images and seems to have that uplifting feeling that I like when I watch movies of this nature. And it's fun that Baymax is fat and basically serving in the role of "hero." I like that. It almost makes me want to "clutch the pearls."

I saw the trailer and would definitely take my kids to see it if they still would go to the movies with me. I'll probably catch it when it comes out on rental like I do most movies.

ReplyDeleteIt's been ages since I saw an animated movie, but I admit this does look charming and uplifting.
ReplyDeleteThe whole race diversity thing was the last thing on my mind when I thought of Big Hero Six. While I'm glad people are happy with more races being portrayed my thing has always been about story and quality. Get those right and you can have the roles played by a full cast of donkeys. I just want a movie I can enjoy. A boring movie is a boring movie no matter the colour of the characters.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for Big Hero Six that I bought the novel version on The Book Depository. Should get it next week. Definitely plan to watch this movie. But that spooning looked like pseudo sexual assault. Thank God poor Baymax doesn't understand boundaries. But my fave line is from another clip when he kept repeating "We jumped out a window" as the boy tried to push him upstairs. The mother looked like she was wondering what kind of weirdo her son was hanging out with. Thank goodness she wasn't in the same room.
Sounds like fun. I will definitely tell my son about it.
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks so good. If Interstellar is a kids' movie, you might be right about it topping this. But kids and grandparent adults will line up to see it.

ReplyDeleteIt's about time there was some more realistic depictions (ironically, in a cartoon!) of people, meaning we come in different colors and shapes and stuff. I mentioned Sleepy Hollow earlier this week and that show, though set in New England, is pretty ethnically diverse and hence realistic -- ironic again, considering the supernatural premise.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't all that impressed by Frozen either. Even though it contains my name. (The name of the town. Spelled differently. Pronounced the same. Helps when introducing myself to middle school classes--"Have you seen Frozen? Sounds like that.")

That preview was better than the first one I saw with BayMax chasing the ball. Yay for Disney diversifying though :)
