A Grand New Age of Boom or Dust? M. Pax is the new Joss Whedon

I really love this cover art. Go Mary!
Boomtown Craze, Book 3 in the Backworlds series is here!

In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendents to survive in a harsh universe.

To secure his future, Craze must propel his world into a more prosperous era. Only days away from the grand opening of his new and improved tavern, he is confronted by a loony Backworlder intent on mucking up his plans. Gaunt and trembling, she claims her spaceship is possessed. She also has a connection to the underworld that shakes loose the dark past of one of Craze’s closest friends. It all threatens to end Craze’s prosperity before it begins.

Meanwhile off world, Captain Talos works desperately to outwit the mercenary Jixes and lure them away from his and Craze’s budding prospects. The mind-control weapon Talos uses against them is wearing thin, and his next move may be his last.

Will Craze and Talos’s efforts bring about a grand new age of boom or damn them to forever struggle in the dust?

M. Pax is a Browncoat and SG fan, she’s also slightly obsessed with Jane Austen. In the summers she docents as a star guide at Pine Mountain Observatory where the other astronomers now believe she has the most extensive collection of moon photos in existence. No fear, there will be more next summer. She lives in stunning Central Oregon with the Husband Unit and two lovely, spoiled cats.

  3. Good Job Mary! I'm starting to get behind, I suppose I'll need to catch up on her Boomtown novels. I've only read the first so far - which was awesome.

  7. I still have the first one to read. Isn't tomorrow your follow-up procedure on your kidney stone? Good luck with that!

  9. I don't read a lot of science fictions books (Mainly because I haven't found the right one to start with) But that seems very interesting.

  11. If anyone is worthy of being compared to Joss Whedon, then I have to get to my amazon and make me some purchases, pronto-style! :)

  13. ScFi certainly seems to be thriving these days. There are probably physiological reasons for this.

  14. @Theresa: I wrote the post title that way because "The Backwords" is very "Firefly-esque".

@P.T. Dilloway: Yes, tomorrow is my follow-up surgery and will be my last post this week as I'll be taking the rest of the week to recover. I know, I haven't been blogging much lately. I'll make it up in April for the A to Z challenge.

@DPK: LOL. As I commented above, I compared Mary to Joss because they both write such similar stories.

@Stephen: Please remember that I network (on purpose) with authors who write Science Fiction. Alex, P.T. Dilloway, M. Pax, Ellie Garratt, Stephen Tremp, etc. So by coming to my blog, it may seem like science fiction is booming because I like to highlight their selections. But I suspect that worldwide, sci-fi is actually "down".
