I'm being interviewed by the amazing Donna Hole

Hello and good Tuesday morning to all of you. Today I've got a guest post and a review of my book up at Donna Hole's blog<<<CLICK. Please go and visit if you don't already follow Donna. She's amazing. I also talk about my writing.

Today, I'm going to share one of my deepest fears:
What do you fear?

Have a great Tuesday.

  1. I fear rejection as well. I imagine doing a book signing, and no one shows up. I think that would be a nightmare come true.

  2. Congrats on the interview!

    Personally, I get a good deal of satisfaction from just writing a story or novel. So, if people don't like it, well, that's just their loss isn't it ;)

  3. What IF your art never means anything to anyone but yourself?

    Who are you writing for?

    WHY are you writing for?

    The only thing I fear is that I will have things left that I want to do when I die. That's almost certainly true. But having faced death once before, I don't really fear that, either.

  4. I was so afraid when I first started blogging that people would comment that what I wrote was stupid, boring or trite. Thank God no one did. But I will say, after reading some nasty anonymous comments from people on other blogs, I don't think it wouldn't bother me now. I figure, if you don't like what you read, you can move on.

    People not liking my art? Never being noticed for talent or originality? Yes, I think that would hurt. We all want to be validated and believe we matter to some people at least, if not the whole world! I don't think you need worry about that. People already appreciate your writings on your blog and I am sure many will like your book.

  5. I fear being old and looking back on my life and realizing I never had the courage to invest in myself by taking the chances necessary for success.

  6. I fear that this is a trick question.

  7. I love that picture. I guess I had one advantage in that my very first stories were posted on literotica... so I got to see that people wanted to read them. Now, whether I could write good enough to get published or whether people would want to pay good money for them or how the hell I could FIND said audience were other questions entirely, but I believe they are out there. They are out there for all of us.

  8. My toes curl with embarrassment every single time I submit something. Still, the first and most important person I need to please is myself. Art is self-expression, and as long as it means something to me - and is the best work that I can do - then I'm satisfied. :-)

  9. This is why I'm hugely grateful to anyone who reads and likes my novels, even when they're just in manuscript form and they are only a few people who read them. And judging by the popularity of your blog, Michael, I think you have nothing to fear.

  10. I fear bees and bloodsucking insects. Or anything that sucks blood, for that matter.

    Headed over to your interview! :)

  11. I fear never quite doing something I feel is worthwhile. Time ticks by so fast. Off to check you out at Donna's

  12. @Grumpy: Smartass.

    @Jay: True enough sir.

    @Alex: As if I wouldn't notice...

    @Vanna: Well I'm about to find out in two months when my book is released. Up til then...not too many have read it. Maybe 20 or so will read it after it's available and they might like it.

    @Briane: Thanks for visiting.

    @Belle: I'm happy at the transformation you have had with your self-confidence. I think you are a blogging natural.

    @Stephen: I don't fear old age. I do fear death. But maybe I'll become more comfy with it as society makes me jaded and cranky.

    @Andrew: Smartass

    @Amber: Online venues are definitely good for getting your feet wet with publishing.

    @Li: I like the expression you used "Art is self-expression".

    @Helena: Aww thank you.

    @David: Great. I love a visit from the King!

    @Laura: I don't think anything in life is worthwhile. So in my philosophy...that also means everything is of equal importance.

  13. I fear that, as well as spiders & mean CP's who don't know about constructive criticism.

    Off to check out your guest post! Whoo-hoo!

  14. Hey that's not just being a smart-ass; I really do hate doing interviews. (And blogfests, blog hops, memes, tagging, etc.)

  15. Sorry, just can't help it. :P
    When I was in high school, we were asked this question. Everyone was answering with phobias and the like, and I couldn't think of anything, so I said nothing. heh
    All of my fears have to do with my kids, so, still, it's hard to answer that.

  16. @Leigh: Oooh spiders...eep. I had one drop on me from the ceiling. Terrible things spiders!

    @Grumpy: THEN DON'T DO THEM! Building platform does not increase sales. Maybe Pagel has some definitive argument against my statement but show me the scientific evidence that states otherwise? There isn't any. It's not something you can really measure. But if you hate doing something then you really shouldn't participate in it or find another way to go about it. For example...I'm not entering the flash fiction contest but I'm helping out by sending emails and working a spreadsheet of all the entries and coordinating who wins out of groups of ten. In return, I get some blog follow love.

    @Andrew: I think you fear that George Lucas will stop reissuing Star Wars so that you will no longer have a reason to attend screenings at Skywalker Ranch and then rub it in our faces.

    @Dezmond: I love your avatar...whatever it is.

    ReplyDelete
  17. LOL
    Well, that may be true. The not getting to go to more screenings part, that is.
    I don't really mean to be rubbing it in people's faces. Is that how it comes off? Okay, that actually scares me, that I could be coming off as "ha ha, I got ice cream and you didn't."

  18. Great interview. I don't normally read sci fi but I think I'll be making an exception for Slipstream. What do I fear? Having my fears overtake my passion for writing. Yes, I fear fear. I'm working on that... :-)

  19. what do you mean whatever it is? It's me, man! Check out my Facebook page and you will see :)

  21. I'm heading out to click over to Donna's blog.
    I both fear and appreciate the unknown. Does that count?

  22. Great interview!

    I fear doing everything right but still not getting anywhere.

  23. I am sure your writing will be appreciated by thousands, if not by millions.
    My fear - - forgetting.

  25. I guess I can't be afraid of rejection since I already put myself out there every week and get rejected on a regular basis. Maybe I'm developing a thick skin like a crocodile or something. Good luck and I'll check out the link.

  26. I completely fear public speaking, performance in front of an audience, that sort of thing. Makes me feel a little queasy inside!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have too many fears to count. Most of them having to do with family members getting hurt, but also the art nobody wants thing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dude,

    I grabbed the Tebow button... will get it up there... also cheers for the comments re. my Word Verification post, and THANKS for helping with Rach :)

  29. I'm with you on the fear about no one but me caring about my art. If so, then I suppose I should just write it for me and be done with it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I fear that too. And I keep editing, and editing, and editing, trying to make sure my story will move others.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Success can be a scary thing. My biggest fear is that each story I produce will be the last I ever produce.

    Thanks for the excellent interview Mike. That was a marvelous, inspiring journey for Slipstream.

  33. I fear I'll die before finishing all of my stories.

  34. Nice interview, I enjoyed it.

    My fear is going insane. Judging by the rest of my family it's only a matter of time.

  36. Okay, it looks like you're doing great in the platform building department too. I read your visit on Donna's blog and I'm sad I didn't get to review your book, but maybe someday. After taxes, Grrr. Pass the cheetos, please.
