My expectations for Game of Thrones Season 2

The second season of "A Game of Thrones" that was brought to the screen last year by HBO pictures in conjunction with the genius that is George R.R. Martin will soon be upon us. They just released the second trailer that gives us a more in-depth look into the upcoming season. The name isn't changing but the story will be taken directly from A Clash of Kings as the first season exhausted the plot from that book. Here are the things that I'm looking forward to seeing:
1) The arrival of Jojen and Meera Reed at Winterfell. They are influential in taking Bran north of the wall and to awakening the powers that reside within him.

2) Melisandre of Asshai. This witch is able to "birth" a demon from you know where (completely nude in the process). It literally crawls out of her birth canal when she summons it. I'm wondering how they are going to do this one.
Carice Van Houten plays the priestess Melisandre
3) Tyrion as Hand of the King. His lines are the best written so there will be much conniving going at King's Landing between Tyrion, Cersei, and Varis.

4)  North of the wall we see Craster's keep. This is a guy that has twenty or so wives, and they are all his kin (daughters). He's a complete and utter pig. Any boys that are born (he doesn't want competition) are given to the White Walkers as a sacrifice of sorts. It's about as disgusting an act as I've seen in an epic fantasy.
Robert Pugh plays Craster. He doesn't look so bad here, but in the book, he
was pretty ignorant and vile.
5) Battle at the Fist of the First Men. The White Walkers a.k.a. the Others attack the Night's Watch in a battle that should raise the goosebumps on anyone watching. This is one of the most hair-raising moments in the book.
This is an artist rendition of the Fist of the First Men.

  1. Hi, Michael, The crawling out of the birth canal shouldn't be too difficult for them to film with CGI. Or do you mean - how will they show this on TV without being too graphic? Craster's Keep sounds like a fun place. I wouldn't want to miss that! I'm just teasing. I think my granddaughter reads these books.

  3. Not only do I need to re-read the series (and read the latest two...or is it three?...books) but I need to see the first season of the show. ARGH I'm so behiiiind!

  4. Man, I still haven't even seen the first season yet. I. Must. Get. HBO.

  5. Birthing a demon on demand is a little yucky. Series sounds great.

  6. My expectation is that I won't watch. That'll be pretty easy to meet.

  7. I saw the first series and loved it. I want to read the books but I doubt I'll get round to it before the new series starts.

  8. I cannot wait for all the scenes with Tyrion prancing about King's Landing with Shagga and Timmet in tow. It's like the fantasy version of the Three Stooges. I mean, if Moe was actually smart.

Also, about the Melisandre demon thingy...well, they went ahead and tried the whole birthing scene from Breaking Dawn. All bets are off now.

  9. Demon birthing might be a nasty scene. hmmm...

  10. Looking forward to the start fo the second series. I do wonder how they'll manage to film all of it with all the kids growing up so fast. And will George ever come up with an ending?

  12.
I can't wait to watch that hottie as Melisandre birth a shadow out of her loins at Storm's End.
13. I confess that when the trailer first started I couldn't help but think of the old jokes in the 80's. This is my favorite show and I'm so excited about it's return. I just hope they don't ruin the story by trying to create a 'shock factor' like they do with most of the shows. I just want a great story and acting.

  14. Also, did we get a glimpse of Margaerey Tyrell in that second video? She looks nothing like I pictured, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

  15. No matter how early I get to your blog, I can't crack the top 10 of commenters. I'm getting up at midnight tonight and I'm going to sit by the computer until you post your comment just so I can be first.

Ugh: "Game Of Thrones." I get confused between that and Lord of the Rings after the war. If I had to guess, I'd say that season 2 of Thrones will feature Sam Gamgee the Third running a brewery.

  17. Watched this trailer last night. We have yet to watch the first season (lack of cable), but we plan to rent it. At least we're caught up and ready for season 2.5 of Walking Dead and close to catching up with Psych. Those Shaun and Gus guys run fast! :)

  18. Read the books. Not see the first season. I live 'off the map' remember. Which books are covered in the first season? Which will be covered in the second? I'm trying to justify buying the first season (about the same as one month of cable) Thanks for the trailer.

  19. I'm just going to have to break down and get HBO. There seems to be quite a few quality programs that I'm missing.

  20. How is it that I didn't even know about this? *sigh* That's what happens when don't get to watch anything but Disney movies all day, I guess. I'm interested to see it though! (w/out the kids) :D

  21. Haven't read the books (shame on me, I guess); is the first season on DVD yet?

  22. Crawls out when she summons it? Eh, wow...how /will/ they do that?

  23. I predict I won't see it either as I don't have HBO.
Saw David's comment and I am ready for Pysch's season to kick back in next month!

  24. I'm a bit annoyed that HBO has been so slow to make the show available to folks who don't want to get the network just to watch a single damn series.

But - I'd like to see all those things you mentioned too. Maybe one day.

  25. We don't have TV stations. Going to have to catch this on Netflix.

  26. I'm curious how they will pull off the birthing scene as well. The book is graphic enough. Yowza!

    Looking forward to Season 2.

  27. Yeah... Craster sounds pretty vile. Still need to read the books before I start watching the show, though.

  28. hope it will be more dynamic than the first season which was a bit boring at moments, and hope they will have better editing and direction, a lot of the episodes were unfocused and diluted.
Can't wait to see what happens to Kahelesee.
PS I'm very close to getting an interview with one of the GOT actors :)

  29. I have so gotta watch this series. Get the first season DVDs, subscribe to HBO. Something.

  30. Isn't it nice to have things to look forward to?

Enjoy the season. Alas, I am now without HBO, so I must wait for DVD release (that is if I decide to watch it...I think I might not...).

  31. I'm pretty stoked for the new season. I just hope I don't have to wait a decade or anything for the next book to be released. Any news on that front?

  32. HBO SUCKS for not putting season one out on DVD yet!

Yes, I feel better now, though I'd feel even mo' better if I could watch season one. :P

  33. Okay, the birth scene sounds disgusting. But that might because it hits a little too close to home right now... not that my unborn child is a demon, but if he were. Yeah...
