Do You Use Grooveshark?

Do you listen to Grooveshark?

If the answer is no, why?  Personally, I love this website.  It has every song I could ever want on it (to the brand new ones to the golden oldies), you can create your own playlists, and then listen to the songs all on your computer just like you would on iTunes. The difference is that you don't pay a cent. Not one dime.

It's totally free.

Hit up this link here to try it out yourself.

I've been trying to think of ways to cut bills lately. Rising cost of food, rising cost of rent, and permanently frozen wages along with a tumultuous stock market that creates a shrinking 401K instead of one that increases make me skeptical of the future.

My friend Meg told me that civil engineers can't find jobs.  She also told me that her friend with a PhD in nuclear engineering has a "plan" in place to get a job.  I was like...wtf?!  I remember when you had a PhD in nuclear engineering and you didn't even need a plan to get a job.  It just happened...one fell in your lap.

Stock market is tanking again, rich people in our country are complaining because they aren't rich enough while poor people starve...so yeah...I discovered grooveshark and I think I'm not going to buy any more iTunes for a while unless I really cannot live without the song, and that will be a rarity.

So if grooveshark is totally new to you, and you see how wonderful a website it really is, you're welcome :).  Play your favorite songs and dance away.

  1. I'll have to look at it at some point, but it probably wouldn't work with my MP3 players. Music is about the only thing I spend much money on anymore. I don't spend a lot on books usually because I get ARCs from Amazon for free or go to Bargain Books or the used book store. Movies I rarely buy anymore either with the Netflix Instant and Blockbuster by mail and there not being many movies I really want to own.

  2. I've been using Grooveshark for almost three years and I absolutely love it. The only thing is that it lags like YouTube when I have a weak internet connection.

  3. This reminds me of Pandora (as in Pandora is the sleek Mac version and this is the utilitarian but you can do more with it PC equivalent). Is there a difference between the two?

  4. I'll check it out. Like Rogue, music's about the only thing I ever buy anymore -- that and books on my Kindle and my subscription to the New Yorker.

Don't fret about the economy; I'm sure President Bachman will fix things right up. Doesn't she have a plan that involves not letting lesbians buy light bulbs, or something?

  10. I have NEVER heard of Grooveshark before!! I will check it out. We, too, are looking for places to cut expenses.

Just today, I called the doctor to get a prescription refilled for my son, and they said, "No." They want me to pay a fortune, again, to get the prescription written. We know what it is. It's been diagnosed by multiple doctors, but they won't just refill the medicine.

    ARRRRG.

Maybe I need happy music from Grooveshark ...

  12. I just did the Spotify thing, which sounds really similar. I'm loving it. Which is great for me since the only time I listen to music any more is when I write. So it makes writing even more of an enticement.

  13. We use rhapsody, but it does have a monthly fee. Is grooveshark legal?

And you suck Rusty! I can't listen to music at all when I'm writing :(

  14. I am too busy checking out the Spotify thing too. It's pretty awesome so far. And at work I use Pandora-- if I could use grooveshark at work though I might try it out. I just can't download crap on my computer at work...

  16. I love Grooveshark! Although sometimes it freezes on me, it is for the most part reliable.

The difference between G-shark and Pandora is that Pandora is more like a radio station in that you cannot choose what songs you listen to. So if I don't feel like listening to my grooveshark mixes (which are a mix of top 40, random 90s songs, Neil Finn songs, and showtunes), and I want to be surprised, I'll listen to Pandora.

That's crazy about your PhD friends. I know a lot of newly minted lawyers who cannot find jobs, too. Scary times.
