Second Crusader Flash Fiction Challenge, New Award, and Opinion On The New Wonder Woman Costume

Rachael Harrie over at her blog has got the second crusader challenge posted with a deadline of this Friday (so I figured I should get busy and get my entry posted). The rules are simple. Basically, write a flash fiction piece of no more than 100 words that includes "The goldfish bowl teetered"... and then fill out the form on her website. Anyway, here is my slightly less than 100-word entry into that contest and I hope that I win a prize :).

The goldfish bowl teetered on the desk as Kian pushed on it with his pencil. Brianna looked up from her ornithology paper and put her hand to the cold glass. “Stop it,” she said.
Kian’s blue eyes were filled with mischief. “You know, a few years ago the city council of Monza, Italy, barred people from keeping goldfish in bowls because gazing outward would present a distorted view of reality.”
   “Your point?”
“How do we know that our reality isn’t similarly distorted? Assuming that it is, wouldn’t you want someone to break the glass?”
Okay I won another blog award and this one was passed to me from the amazing Rogue Mutt and you can find his blog here.

You are supposed to answer three pointless questions and I assume that they are "of your choosing" so I made the following questions (similar to the ones that Patrick chose for his):

1) What is your favorite condiment? For me, it's probably salsa.

2) Who is your favorite 80's singer? I'm going to say Madonna.

3) What character do you relate with from any television series past or present?  I think I relate to Harriet from Harry's Law. Played by Kathy Bates, I could totally see myself being her (if I was a lawyer) with her same attitude and desire to do good.

Next, recipients of this award are to pass this on to five other bloggers (similar to a chain letter) but the idea being that their blog is awesome. So, I wracked my brain to think of the most awesome blogs out there. Oh, and you should visit all of the blogs you picked and let them know that they've won heehee. :-)

1) The awesome Rachael Harrie, Queen of the Crusade.

2) Michael di Gesu and his blog "In Time..." Michael is such a wonderful spiritual person, really, if you haven't visited his blog, please do so.

3) David Powers King and his science fiction blog.

4) The Focus blog by my new friend who posts under the name Munir.

5) The Lady On A Roof blog showcasing some of the best places to go in New York & Brazil (or wherever she travels). If anything, I love peeking in on her blog because I can live vicariously through her travels :-).

Okay, now for your opinion on the new Wonder Woman costume.  I've always been a fan and I had an earlier post on wonder woman located here.

My opinion... I don't like it.  It's too shiny and I don't like the covered legs and the boots with the stars running down the sides.  Now, I may get to like it in the future, but as of right now...not a fan.

Anyway, what's your opinion?

  1. Yeah, the new Wonder Woman costume is stupid. Why is she wearing hot pants? And why are the boots blue? It's kind of stupid looking. But better I suppose than in the comic in the 70s or so when she didn't even have a costume--or so I heard on the History Channel.

Also, you put a lot more effort into yours than I did on any of mine. I wrote 6 of them that I'm not entering. Just did it for a little amusement.

  2. Are you saying that cause my flash fiction entry is awesomesauce?

  3. Great flash piece. I love the philosophical musings in it.

  4. Nice flashfic! It flowed well, and the philosophical additions made it really interesting. :)

  5. DC Comics redesigned the Wonder Woman costume last year to something like what you see. Here's a link to some examples:

I like that they gave her pants but those just look bad/cheap. Hopefully its just the lighting.

  6. Congratulations on your award!
Ooh, I'm tempted to break the glass on a goldfish bowl now. Or at least drop a stone into a pond and ripple the surface...

  7. Yeah, hopefully they redesign that costume before the show actually airs. When they gave her pants in the comic books, at least it didn't look like it was made of...I can't even say what that horrible, shiny material is.

  8. Metlastic...I think that is what the material is called.

  9. Bleah. Reminds me of the weird 90's Batman costumes with the fake fake muscles...why do they want to change the costume again??

  10. I think they want to change the costume to make it less "leggy" and more something that you could visualize someone wearing to a fight I guess? Not sure why they felt it needed to be changed.

  11. Congrats on your award! I agree that the new Wonder Woman costume is too shiny.

  12. Love the challenge piece. A pretty cerebral story for just 100 words. Impressed.

As for WW, I'm trying to hold out judgment. But right now I don't really like it. I think it would look better if it wasn't just in front of a white screen. I know that they're wanting to show it off, but I think it'll look better in context. I hope, I hope, I hope.

  13. Great job on the flash fiction piece!

And the WW costume? Hmmm...not sure about it. It is really shiny, but I think I'm going to need to see it in action before I tally my final voite.

  14. Hey Michael, congrats on your award, and thanks for passing it on to me! I'm going to go hang it up now :)

I enjoyed reading your Challenge piece - it does raise a few questions doesn't it *grins*

    Hugs,

    Rach

  15. I love the last two lines! Oh - and I don't have much of an opinion on Wonder Woman (sorry!).

  16. I liked the story. As for WW, it may be a bit shiny, but it shows off her assets. That seems to be the main goal with Wonder Woman costumes.

  17. Great flash fiction piece!

    Congrats on the award.

  18. Thank you for the award. It does mean a lot to me. I think my husband is proud of me:)
I like your gold fish under one hundred words short story too. If the glass I am in is broken, I may just exit out of this earth. The poor gold fish:(

  19. Interesting flash fiction piece. Rather deep and philosophical :) Congrats on your award, and Wonder Woman? I agree she's too latex-y shiny.

  20. Loved your challenge entry -- with such an existential premise. Makes you think!

Congrats on your award. And yeah, Madonna rocks!

Personally, I like Wonder Woman costumes with hottie shorts. The leggings cover too much. :))

Great to meet you! Off to follow~

  21. Great job with the flash fiction and nice award :)

The hubby and I already had an in debth conversation about the new costume and the consensus was from the waist down we hate it. The shine reminds me to much of certain sparkly vampires.

  22. Hey, Michael. I also gave you an award. I know I already told you but I wanted to make sure my comment wasn't overlooked by accident. ^^ Thanks.

  23. Clever entry! It really make you think ~ hmmm. :) Best of luck to you! And, nope. Not a fan of the new outfit. I agree...too shiny.

  24. I love that "your blog doesn't suck" award ;) I love the premise behind it too :D

    Great goldfish story. Philosophical :)

  27. Hey, Michael

I really liked your flash fiction piece. Something out of the norm. Well done.

Thank you for the shout out and award, I appreciate it.

  28. It's been said, but the new comics have her legs covered now. I think it's a sign that you can take WW more seriously in these times of more serious superhero stories. Her skimpy outfit is the real reason she's not been in her own big budget movie yet. Her old costume makes her more sex symbol than hero and therefore people won't take her seriously. These thought are pretty loopy, sorry. Read carefully to get the gist.
    It Just Got Interesting

  29. ..."Wonder Woman" looks like she's going to a comic book convention as opposed to going off to fight crime. Plus, in an ensemble that tight, where exactly is she supposed to keep her purse?

  30. Thanks so much for the award!! I loved it :) Thanks so much for being such a faithful follower; I enjoy your blog too. It makes me laugh and smile...

    Enjoy your day :)

  33. I really liked your entry. Your thoughts that are showcased are great and I just like the spirit of the entry.

As for Wonder Woman, it is not my favorite but then who am I to talk? I am wearing a t-shirt and pj's right now.

  34. I liked your story. A message lies within.

Congrats on the great award and to those you passed it onto. Fun.

I also like that house in Toronto. Now if I lived alone that'd be cute.

  35. Great Crusader piece. And yeah, don't care for the new Wonder Woman costume. It doesn't look anything like the under-roos I had as a kid.

Maybe she has skinny shapeless legs so she has to hide them?

  36. Great job on your flash fiction! I'm trying to picture the world now through goldfish eyes - distorted and all.

Oh and considering I feel like Wonder Woman half the time - I LIKE the new costume. Hmmmm
