Captain America Looks Awesome

It comes out 7/22/2011.

You can look at the official site here.

I'm just going to make the statement right now that this is going to be the top grossing movie of the summer and the one that I probably go and see four times over opening weekend (Yes, I'm being completely serious). Captain America (and comic books in general) is a guy-version of Twilight. And just like you ladies that dragged all your boyfriends and husbands to go and endure Twilight you might as well get prepared now because every man in your life is going to have a total bromance with Captain America this summer.

Anyway, here's the latest trailer for it (and also here's to much kicking of ass). I love how they used CGI to put the actor's face on a really scrawny body and it looks convincing (cause the actor is a bodybuilder in real life).

  1. It wouldn't be proper summer without a superhero happy-action movie, methinks. And the person I'd watch it with would be my sister, since none of us could get the available men to watch it... (Then again, I'm not a fan of Twilight)

  2. The trailer looks good but for some reason I have a feeling this is going to be bad. Hollywood seems to be relying on comic books/cartoons to replace the blockbusters from the past 10 years (Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter/Pirates of the Caribbean/Star Wars). The thing is the stories are pretty much the same thing over and over. I'm a fan of most of DC/Marvel comics but even I'm getting a bit tired of it. My prediction is this comic book trend will be over when you see George Lucas announce he is making "Howard the Duck 2 - The Quack is Back". Perhaps then people will finally realize that perhaps they need to start coming up with original content.

The one thing this movie does have going for it is Germans. Is there a better bad guy in movies than the Germans in WW2?

  3. I'll have to wait until I see some reviews before if I decide to see it in the theater or not.

  4. Cruella-- O_o I'm shocked. No guys you know want to go see Captain America?

Kevin--I think Hollywood is looking wherever it can to get its hands on some profit. If this means making sequels to proven franchises or catering to the young adult crowd which turned out in droves for terrible Twilight movies then they will. It's the bottom line that determines what gets made. Fortunately, if the studios feel comfortable enough then they spare a few coins here and there to turn out one or two amazing films like "The King's Speech". I also agree that the Germans make really convincing bad guys ala WW2 generation.

Mutt: It's going to be awesome.

  5. Man, I completely agree! This movie is shaping up nicely! Can't wait to see it (and Thor too).

I read your comment about my blog quote and laughed, because I think you're right about it being unusual for people to pick the same quote for a header. Here's one that might blow your mind: I was not only contacted by another blogger a few months ago who had the same quote, but he had also titled his blog 'The Open Vein'. I about fell over, and we had a nice laugh (via e-mail) about great minds, etc.

I really only take it to mean that the quote is meaningful (in a writerly sense) to lots of us. For so many of us, writing is the stuff of life, and when we share it's very much like pouring out our hearts and lives.

Thanks for stopping by my blog (as always), and for giving me an excuse to watch the 'Cap' trailer again!

  7. It looks good. All a man has to do is show his date the photo of the hero with his shirt off and there won't be a problem. :) No seriously, it does look like a good flick.

  8. Ciara, wait a minute, I thought that was the formula for a writer to sell a book. You mean it works for movies too?

  9. I can totally relate to this post, my boyfriend has already shown me the Captain American trailer 3 times. Lol. I have to admit, it does look like it's going to be a pretty good movie though. I don't think I will mind sitting through it.

  12. teehee--somehow I see all these superhero movies and enjoy them... maybe it is the 12 year old son... even though I never paid any attention to comics as a kid. Hope you love it as much as you expect!

  13. I hope for your sake, Captain America is better than the guys' version of Twilight. I remember a little about Captain America from childhood. I was more into Wonder Woma, Superman, and The Bionic Woman.

  14. My grandson is six years old. It is cute to watch my son and him discussing super heros. I have to ask him if he knows Captain America. I am wondering when was the last time Captain America was in public eyes (I mean kid's) or do
    I not know enough.
