Cool Stuff For Your iPad & Strange Kittens

I don't work for any technology place so what I say here is simply because I'm a geek and I love technology.

I love my iPad.  My first post about it is here.  Since then, I've attended an Assistive Technology conference that showed a bunch of other stuff out there available for autistic children and adults, many of them free. All you have to do is check the Apple store and type in "autism" and a bunch of apps will come up.

At my heart though, I like games and the new Joystick-IT arcade stick looks awesome.  In short, it suction cups down on your iPad screen and will allow you to play Pac-Man and other games without having to rely on finger swipes.

It's going to be on sale at ThinkGeek and I'm definitely snapping one up. Not to mention, it just looks cool.

Other cool stuff:

1) Penultimate.  Think of Penultimate as a notepad that you can write and scribble on and you’ve got the big idea. This app organizes your musings into notebooks so they’re easy to keep track of. When you’re done, you can email single pages or entire notebooks as PDFs. This app is for finger-written notes and drawings only.
2) Portapoet. A great app for poets that is equipped with a built-in rhyming dictionary. You can search rhymes without being connected to the Internet. Portapoet also provides pronunciation for words and enables you to share your work via Facebook.

And here are some strange kittens related to Charlie's post on his blog.

  1. I absolutely LOVE my ipad! Life seemed so bland without it.

    Thanks!

  3. The joystick rocks! My boyfriend has been comparing Macs and PCs. This might seal the deal for him.

I'm definitely going to check out the Portapoet. I wanted to write a poem about happy hour while at happy hour, but my rhyming skills are lacking. Now, I have no reason not to participate in drunken literary silliness. Thanks!

  4. Oh...I'm laughing in my office and trying not to cry as the sales assistant across the hall looks at me funny.

I saw "Strange Kittens" in the title, but did not see this coming. See. They are stinking cute! I am not alone. Ü

  5. Robin: I agree

D.U.: It's a proven fact that iPads allow you to burn more calories in a day (j/k) :P I only wish that were true

Laura: The iPad isn't a computer (remember that when choosing what you want).

Charlie: Glad you liked it :))

  6. I've not given IPads much thought, but since you mentioned they have things for Autism, I might look into it. I have twin boys who both have Autism.

  7. Hi Michael

I love techno-gadgets ... actually I love anything shiny, but that's another matter. I might get an ipad one day (or whatever has replaced it by the time I could afford one!)

Thanks for the follow, great to have you on board

    Enjoy the Crusade!

  8. iPad rocks! It is the single greatest invention of the millennium. I would never have envisioned a joystick for it, but that's pretty cool. I sense mankind de-volution coming, but that's okay. The machines will do it much better. And cleaner.

  9. I love posts like this because sometimes I am out of the technology loop. I think I want an iPad just to get the joystick. Coolness!

  10. I probably need to get an iPad first, though I don't see any value to it for me.

  11. You are not helping me in my irrational resistance to liking this sweet piece of technology.

  12. The iPad is furthering my writing addiction. Got myself iPages and a portable keyboard, and I can type all day long (well, if I don't have work). Although once I was typing on an airplane and the older gentleman next to me did not look too thrilled with my subject matter. Serves him right for peeking when I deliberately made my screen as teeny as possible. Ah well.

  15. I'm a PC person myself, although I do have an iPhone and love it. Two of my sons are Apple people and they're both rabid about it. I may make the switch some day.

  17. I am not into the ipad thing and don't even have a very high tech phone. My laptop is as high tech as I get (I mean I get technology I just don't jump onto the I need every new gadget band wagon. Our computer is still running Windows XP for instance.) Some of us have to drag our feet I guess! LOL Anyway... just dropping by for the Crusades!

  18. Very interesting. I may have to upgrade my life one day, but right now I can't afford it. Just creating my website is enough to give me cyber gray hair.

After looking at those adorable "kittens" I had my laughing-in-my-coffee morning. Thanks for the LOL.

  19. My friend Tomeka just sent me a message on my iPhone. She and I have matching iPads and wrote, "...a joystick for the iPad!!!" I responded, "Hell yes sweet pea." Another bonus is it's easy to take the iPad in with you when you are using the restroom. O.o

  20. LOL the "kittens" cracked me up!!
    lol

I don't know if I want an ipad. It just seems like another big and clunky thing to carry around. And if I don't take it anyway, what's the use of having it? At home I can go on my laptop. Convince me, Mike, convince me!!
