We never had computers, mobile phones, tablets, i pads, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and all the rest of it when I was a kid. Yet I'm sure I enjoyed life far more than the youngsters of today.
Also red tape and bureaucracy seems to pervade every aspect of life now. It really is all too much sometimes. I am leaving my job as a developer. Things in the tech world have become such a mess these days. After 16 years of doing this full time it is hard to keep up with ever changing platforms and having to support both older and newer infrastructure. What use to be accomplished with a small team now requires several departments and teams, all coding together. The future is AI. It will be programmed to handle tasks that will eventually eliminate you and I from the backend. Things are not so simple and I am going to throw a spanner in someones work with this but Technology has had a majority negative influence on people and social behaviors in the way people are now friends, marriages, dating and all those things.(I know Utah is still relatively ok with this say compared to NYC). I feel more and more nostalgic when i think about old time in Sicily (my hometown) I remember the first time I bought a moped (about 26 years ago) I did not need insurance or helmet, I could legally ride easilly and happily. I miss so much the simplicity of those times. Unfortunately not everyone is responsible and laws were put in place for everythings making life of good responsible people miserable, because delinquent or superficial people do not care anyway about respecting regulations. Therefore more will be put in place, and so on. To make another example: Christmas! It is not the same as when I was young, nowadays is only exchange expensive presents without the good feelings. Back to school in stores is already set up in May for the next academic year, same for hallowen which you can find hallowen gadget in September. I think is a bit ridiculus. The good feeling on those things is replaced by the pressure of buying the perfect present, masks, decorations ahead of everyone else. People fall for thing marketing like zombies.
Anyway thank you for reading and good night to everyone. If someone wish to talk I am happy to make good friends. I've recently moved into a flat as a private tennant and the process was ridiculously complicated. The web portal application form for the third party background checking company involved uploading images of payslips either scanned or high-res photos, inputting lots of data etc. The checks were over complicated too they went back 15 years of my past addresses and I was only applying for a 12 month tennancy. No wonder there is a homeless crisis the number of hoops you have to go through! So nice to be able to vent my frustrations. I got the flat in the end and all is well apart from the overly complicated society we have created! Thanks for reading - Lee. Not only for our parents but for the world and "us" in general. I tried to make a list of things that had got simpler with time and couldn't find one. Entertainment came closest. You press a button and people appear on a screen, but then I looked behind the screen and the amount of complexity that is required to get that image there. Then I let my mind trace back the cables to source... and I gave up. Could my mother rig up a new plasma flat screen satellite television? No. I then made a list of the basic needs for us to operate. Heat, Shelter, Food, Water, and tried to trace these things back to source and cost. The complexity of the chain is amazing and astounding. I only have my Dad left and he's almost 80. I'm impressed that he still does his own taxes, but I can also see the decline in certain ways. He likes to go on the computer, but he's terrible at it. For awhile he was constantly getting locked out of his online banking. He also messes up the TV now and then. Then he doesn't want any help. I dread the day when I have to pry the car keys out of his hand. There are too many laws. I think there should be a fixed number; pass a new law, repeal an old one. And stop producing electronic crap we don't need, yet all-to-quickly get addicted to.
