Falling Skies is back and the effects are cooler than ever

There are not any real spoilers in this post.
This is the poster that's been online for a month. At right is the Volm. At left is the
new mech/robot that's super destructive and looks rather awesome. The Volm
look cool, don't you think?
Last night one of my favorite series aired its two hour season premiere. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you like science fiction, you really should be watching Falling Skies. That being said, I've got one bone to pick, and it's that I don't like the nine month gap in time from last season to this season. At the end of last season, a new alien showed up and none of us who were watching the show could tell if they were friend or foe. Well for now, they seem to be a friend, and that's a good thing because the resistance had its hands full in dealing with the aliens that originally attacked them.
Noah Wyle on a horse makes everything else irrelevant.
The new ones (called the Volm) are really cool looking. They kind of remind me of Guillermo del Toro's Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies (for the record, I liked Abe Sapien). So that being said, is Falling Skies on your watch list? Is Noah Wyle not enough to lure you to the screen? Is a dystopian post-apocalyptic world where three alien races are currently at war with each other on the surface of the Earth not cool enough to warrant one hour of your time every Sunday?

I hope some of you out there will start watching this show so that we can have discussions about the episodes in the comments!

  1. I'm still catching up on GoT (looks like there's a wedding coming up, that should be fun...). No time for new stuff.

  2. I would need another 12 hours in a day to watch everything you do. At least. Either that or not sleep.

  3. I watched it for a while but afraid the show just never grabbed me.

  4. I really enjoy Falling Skies, but missed this episode, will catch up later though.
    Too busy editing.
I did watch that new zombie show on BBC earlier in the week, because of your recommendation, and had a horrific zombie nightmare, so will not watch it again. I'll have to get my updates from you. Can not stand zombie nightmares!
I missed the next episode of The Killing too, I'm so behind on everything, I need a vacation! :)

  5. Why are all these aliens fighting over our crappy little planet? I find that scenario hard to believe.

  6. Noah Wylie is enough for me. :)

The new bad aliens look badass.

  8. We watched the first few episodes, but had to give it up in favor of some other shows. But! That's what Netflix is for!

  9. The first season was so bad, though; my wife wouldn't even finish watching it.

  10. You guys that are saying the first season is bad probably watched the first season of Star Trek the Next Generation and loved it and it was really bad.

  11. I have to catch up on last season before watching this one. I do like the show, I just forget it's on.

  12. I watched about the first half of the first season and then fell behind. I never did get caught up again. But now that I know Noah Wyle is on a horse, I'm totally there.

  13. I wish I watched the show when it started a few years ago :(

  14. I'm still trying to catch up with Super Natural! And to echo what Moody said: looks like someone's going to Hell, that should be fun. (;

  15. I think I could probably get into this show, but I want the whole thing available before I start watching.

  18. I was happy to have stumbled across the listing by accident. I enjoyed the opening. It's a show that has gotten better.

I didn't mind the jump in time. The thing the new aliens is building is interesting and I'm thinking it's probably not so good. I'm with Dan on that one. :)

  19. Dystopian? Post-apocalyptic? Hostile alien races? Yep, those are three nos for me. Not even Noah Wyle will get me to watch.

I think I can officially call myself a non-geek. Ah well.

  20. I've been meaning to watch... I just can't seem to find the time. I'll add it to the list.

  21. I've caught scenes of this series and wanted to watch it, but because I've missed so much already I don't know what's going on. But the human element is what attracts me rather than the aliens.

  22. I thought I was the only one missing a huge piece of time. Sometimes I'm a bit spotty on watching this series, and I felt like I had missed a couple episodes from last season. Not cool for the producers to dump that alien integration on us like that, and with new ones too. The storyline with Hal paralized came completely out of the blue - last I saw he was walking around proud of himself - with a bug escaping out of his eye.

    That was freaky.

  23. I love this show. My roommate and I are completely addicted. I love the new aliens and their weaponry, but I do think that Weaver has a point. How can you completely trust their story?
