S.H.I.E.L.D. got greenlit and I just wet myself

S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Strategic Hazard intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate. I've seen it in half a dozen Marvel films, represented mostly by Samuel "Mother F'ing" Jackson in the role of Nick Fury. And so have many of you.

Why am I bringing this up?

I just read online that ABC has ordered a pilot S.H.I.E.L.D. for an exploration of a live-action TV series helmed by Joss Whedon.

Um, I made$1.5 billion dollars. Wait for it.
I MADE $1.5 BILLION DOLLARS.

Whedon is the guy that just made 1.5 billion dollars off of one movie, "The Avengers." How do you suppose that conversation went?

"Guys and gals of ABC...umm, I just made...I dunno, $1.5 BILLION DOLLARS. Do you want in on some of that action? Cause...there's this series I wanna do and--"

ABC Execs:  "YES! WE'LL TAKE IT! WHERE DO WE SIGN? OMG I JUST SH*T MY PANTS. YES!!"

If you are a nerd and keep nerd gods in your home, pray that this series does not follow in the footsteps of (I dunno) practically EVERY TELEVISION SERIES JOSS WHEDON HAS PRODUCED?

Am I using too many caps?

Seriously, though. Let's hope that it follows in the footsteps of "Buffy" and "Angel" and not "Firefly" and "Dollhouse." I guess he's 50/50 and that may not be so bad afterall. I'd take those odds at craps. Please tell me you guys know what craps is? And no, it's not something you do on the can while playing "Words With Friends" on your iPad. Oh, I mentioned iPad...I'm having a SIRI moment.
Nick Fury hates hotspacho. So should you.
Remember, on the night S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC, it's "Date Night." Siri says so, and I do too.

So what did we learn here?  S.H.I.E.L.D. got greenlit, and I just wet myself. I hope that all the stars from the movies will make cameos. I wonder if Samuel L. is gonna play Nick Fury. That would be Mother F*cking AWESOME. <== see what I did thar?

It's a happy Wednesday oh nerdy peeps. Be sure to rub your stuffed wookie, click your heels together, and say, "There's no director like Joss Whedon. There's no director like Joss Whedon."
If this guy does a cameo, can you not see the potential here?
Come on, Chris Evans even gives straight men a man crush.

  1. In Joss we trust. I'm glad that Whedon finally has the kudos he deserves, and this SHIELD series sounds epic :) Can't wait!

  2. The potential for Monkey Fighting Awesome is huge here. I really hope they don't muck it up. So glad I live in France where I'll be able to watch the pilot...oh, right. Also, Chris Evans. Captain Sexy. (;

  3. Yes, if Whedon is involved, it will turn to gold!

  4. If they bring it, I will watch. Love Whedon. Chris Evans...just wanted to say his name. ;)

  5. It was kinda wierd to realize Chris Evans was a member of the fantastic four and captain america

  6. Even though Whedon has winners in his pocket, winning TV shows boil down to great script writing.

  7. His only successes were on the former WB network where let's face it expectations were pretty low. So if this were going to be on the CW or Syfy or a basic cable channel it might have a chance but otherwise, it'll probably get canned in one season. Because another point is that a show like this will be expensive to produce and really the "Big Three" network demographics aren't exactly the hippest either. So if you get sagging ratings and an expensive series it equals the ax.

    Something I don't get with ABC is that "Last Resort" show about a nuclear sub that defects. I have a hard time seeing how that is a series. I mean a movie yes but how do you stretch that out to 22 hours a year? Then again I wasn't sure "24" would work either but it did for a few years, so maybe I'm wrong.

  8. Agree. S.H.I.E.L.D. can only be epic, and with Whedon at the helm, you know it will be great fun at the very least. I'm really looking forward to seeing some of Marvel's more obscure characters, like Dum Dum Dugan and dare we say, Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), see major screen time.

  9. They won't be able to afford Jackson in an ongoing series. Their best bet will be to play it on a lower level of SHIELD with, as you said, cameos by the bigger stars.

    That's if it's related to the movies at all. They could always do it as completely separate thing.

  10. This is an excellent outlet for the other SHIELD members of the Marvel universe who may or may not get to be seen on the big screen, at least that's what I imagine could happen here.

    Btw, you've been tagged today. :)

  11. Reasons it should succeed:
    1. It's not on FOX.
    2. Joss Whedon knows how to make interesting TV.
    3. A well-known comic book franchise
    4. And its already established fans
    5. It's not on FOX.

    Seriously, FOX killed Firefly. And I'm still pissed about it. If they had only... And then he trusts them with Dollhouse? (Although, Dollhouse had its own issues.)

    But, any show with mountains of hype dies a swift death (which is why I am reluctant to start watching the new big thing each season, expecting the network to kill it).

  12. I'm kinda getting the impression you're excited about SHIELD -- am I right? I don't know much about it, but I enjoyed The Avengers so no doubt I'll probably end up loving this show too.

  13. @Jamie: I'm glad he's gotten a great break. Dude has gotta be one of the wealthiest directors alive.

    @Elise: "Monkey Fighting Awesome" is so good, I'll be stealing it.

    @Alex: Maybe. He's not Midas but close?

    @Brinda: LOL...Chris Evans

    @Adam: I know, right?

    @Em: Agreed

    @PT: I'm not going to watch "Last Resort."

    @Reinhardt: I think that it will be intriguing and have lots of action in it. I like action.

    @Andrew: They got Jackson to read, "Go the f*ck to sleep." He may be up to doing television. A movie career doesn't last forever. Look at Brad Pitt. He's almost taking bit roles these days.

    @DPK: I've been tagged, eh? Off to check it out.

    @Liz: FOX has killed a lot of series. I think they regret the Firefly death though.

    @Helena: hahaha yeah. I can't wait.

  14. I'm saying it. No one like Josh, no one like Josh. I still want another Firefly movie.

  15. I watched Buffy as reruns and Angel as it played and liked Firefly too. Never saw Dollhouse. If it wasn't fantasy or SF, that explains it. Hope this show makes it.

  16. A post that I feel like I fit in with! I may not watch enough tv/movies, but I DO know that craps is "not something you do on the can while playing "Words With Friends" on your iPad." :)

  17. I'm very happy for you. It clearly means a lot!

  18. I found out about his today. I'm pretty happy. I so wish I was 12 years old again and could be experiencing this then. I never thought comics would be this mainstream, and so well done.

  19. "In Joss we trust" basically sums it up nicely. Though I wasn't 100% enamoured with THE AVENGERS. Whatever, if it made enough money to give Joss free rein, then I'm stoked! :)

    Maybe I will get my friend to rub her Sheldon bobble head, since I don't have a wookie to rub. :P

  20. nice work, if you can get it...

    as for how long it'll be a series?

    with what they pay him, whedon won't care... only his audience will

    but hey, like tony soprano sez: nothing personal - it's only business....

  21. Whedon is god. I cannot say enough about him.

    Sam L on TV, could the censors handle it? And Chris Evans would all right by me on TV. LOL

  22. I had a similar reaction. Of course, I always feel that way about anything Joss is involved in.

  23. Michael, have you heard about the web series Husbands? I suggest you look it up. Whedon actually plays a small role in their second season. ;) Enjoy.
